Serbia's president considers Kosovo division
Source: AP

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) -- Serbia's president said he would consider dividing Kosovo by absorbing the small, Serb-dominated portions from ethnic Albanian areas if Belgrade can't stop the territory from winning full independence.

It was the first time that a senior Serbian official openly discussed the division of Kosovo since ethnic Albanians, who comprise about 90 percent of Kosovo's 2 million people, declared independence from Serbia in February.

Kosovo Albanian officials, however, flatly rejected President Boris Tadic's suggestion.

"Kosovo is now an internationally recognized state with its defined borders," parliamentary speaker Jakup Krasniqi said Tuesday. "Any attempt to change its borders would trigger new problems in the Balkans."

The Serbs keep on getting a raw deal on this one. When was the last time in modern history that a piece of land was taken away from an independent state by force and given independence? Kosovo. I am not sure what the international law implications are, but one way or another Serbs will get Kosovo or parts thereof back under their sovereign control. Kosovo is still a land without laws, with rampant crime, drug smuggling and human trafficking. Even with tens of thousands of NATO troops and no Serbs in sight, Kososvo is in worst shape than it has ever been....We should let the people responsible for most of the drug trade in Europe have independence? Oh yeah, don't forget that an independent Kosovo would be the first Muslim country in continental Europe. Good luck!

If Kosovo really was about "Ethic cleansing" then why did the Western powers not intervene in Darfur? Or Rwanda?

they are in europe, thats why it was given so much attention by the west.

i read to much and saw to much back during the conflict to believe the serbs arent power hungry bastards..
to watch the poor people stuck in Sarajevo was horrifying...
having to be afraid to even walk outside because you mite get shot by a sniper, or blown up by artillary...

i say, fuck the serbian government... so sorry you couldnt keep yugoslavia together... to bad, so sad.. get over it. you dont murder people because they dont do what you say or want.

i mean jesus, just go look around youtube for serbian propaganda.... its nuts... tons of military videos with captions and info stating how albanians are scum and how serbians will destroy them all...

go look up kosovo videos made by kosovoans(?)... most are about them celebrating their independence... not wanting to kill serbs and proclaiming themselves superior...
you tell me who the asshole is.

3. I highly doubt Kosovo will get to keep North Kosovo.
Being that most people there want nothing to do with an Albanian Muslim Kosovo, and everything to do with with Serbia.

Seriously, if they want to break off, why not? Everyone else got to.

5. i agree
i dont see a problem with it either...especially if it maintains peace in the region

on the other hand, the ops attempt to feel sorry for serbians is a lil misplaced and unwarrented.

6. It is so sad that Yugoslavia was destroyed and segmented into micro-states.
This is not self-determination any more. This is the return of feudal city-states.
