Hagel's wife to back Obama
Source: AP

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The wife of Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel plans to endorse Democrat Barack Obama.

Lilibet Hagel has scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday with Susan Eisenhower, the daughter of Republican President Eisenhower.

Hagel, R-Neb., has made no endorsement. Lilibet Hagel said in an Associated Press interview that her decision was independent of her husband. She said she didn't know whether he would make an endorsement or whom he would support.

"You'd have to ask him," Lilibet Hagel said.

She said it will be her first endorsement of a Democrat and that perilous world conditions were a factor.

9. Yes he did.
And I do believe he's seen the light. Although I don't agree with many of his positions, I respect the man because he has a brain and he uses it. I do think there is a place in Obama's cabinet for Hagel.

18. Not a chance in hell
Obama and Dems will use the Hagel card anyplace it will serve them (as well they should), but where the rubber meets the road, all of these guys who don't carry the water for their party are viewed as dangerous by both parties. They are not trusted by anyone beyond their positions on a given subject on a given day. He will never, ever, be in any administration. (that goes for Lieberman too)

5. "perilous world conditions were a factor"
what a great choice of words - really pushed the image of Obama being presidential (and McCain being scary).

11. Bet dinner was awkward that night.
The endorsements are coming in from some pretty unexpected places the last day or two. McCain must be all snearing and red like that famous picture. Can't wait for the next debate.

20. Well
we out here in the plains states are a bit sensitive about politicians who spend too much time outside of the state they represent. Her choice to announce this outside of Nebraska will not play particularly well in Nebraska IMHO. (I spent the first 20 years of my life in NE)

25. Republicans in an Obama administration.
I think we should include a few republicans in high cabinet positions. It has been done many times, but putting a major figure from across the aisle would help democrats look like the more centrist party.

Guys like Hagel or Lugar who have had a good relationship with Obama are probably pretty high on his list.

Maybe even Jim Bunnings name could pop up in relation to the Secretary of Energy.

31. Nancy hates McCain personally (she's friends with his ex) but is a loyal soldier.
She gave him an endorsement that was somewhere between tepid and outright icy, but she did endorse him.

33. Well Nancy's no great friend of McLame
She was disgusted by the way that McCain treated his first wife and, from what I've read, she was pretty frosty toward him at official functions during the 1980s. Even her endorsement of him this year was quite tepid if I recall accurately
