Judge: Let Chinese Muslims in Gitmo into U.S.

WASHINGTON - A federal judge has ordered the release of a small group of Chinese Muslims from Guantanamo Bay into the United States.

In a landmark decision, U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina said it would be wrong for the Bush administration to continue holding the detainees, known as Uighurs, since they are no longer considered enemy combatants.

They have been in custody for almost seven years and have been cleared for release since 2004. Although the Chinese government has demanded custody of the Uighurs, supporters and the Bush administration fear they would be tortured if turned over to Beijing.

2. "...they are no longer considered enemy combatants." --a completely illegal,
unconstitutional, tyrannical category of person, made up, out of whole cloth, by the idiotic front man for Corpo/fascists, who claims to be president of the Unite States.

Jeez, it just bothers the hell out of me when the Corpo/fascist 'news' monopolies--and judges, and others--ACCEPT these crimes as "givens" in our society and by our government.

"...the Bush administration fear they would be tortured if turned over to Beijing."

Oh please.

3. GITMO is bullshit
I know I'll be called a terrorist sympathasizer but we have constitutional rights that guarantee us a fair trial and also says "all men(as well as women) are created equal" that should apply for terrorist suspects. Being locked up indefinately, tortured, tried in military tribunals(I imagine chances of a fair trial in this fashion is unfair to a terrorist suspect) Not everyone we throw in there is a terrorist, I've read so many stories that are terrible. Like one in paticular that was convicted when he stated he was young and forced to train and fight for Al-Qaeda which is believable given the nature of who they are.

GITMO either needs to be shut down or overwatched by a reputable human rights organization as well as guarantee even terrorist suspects a fair trial.

Shall we say 19 or 20?

Can they fly planes?

Do you think they're mad enough at us by now?
Do they have family in the US?

Oh...Did they promise not to hurt us?
Well..... then.... as long as they PROMISED!!

Weren't we told that the Gitmo Guys were the "WORST OF THE WORST" ?
( I just saw "Taxi to the Dark Side")

US anger at Guantanamo Bay ruling

The US has reacted angrily after a judge ordered that
17 Chinese Muslims held at Guantanamo Bay should be
released into the United States.

District Judge Ricardo Urbina said the US could not
hold the 17 as they were no longer considered enemy
combatants.

-snip-

The White House said the ruling could set a precedent
that would allow "sworn enemies" to seek US entry.

The government says the 17 also pose a security risk
if released into the US.

Lawyers for the Bush administration have argued that
federal judges do not have authority to order the
release into the US of Guantanamo detainees.
