Foo Fighters denounce John McCain for using their song

The rockers say the presidential candidate never asked permission

Foo Fighters have denounced the use of their song by John McCain in his ongoing presidential campaign.

The band said that the US Republican presidential hopeful has been "perverting the original sentiment" of their song 'My Hero' by using it for his purposes without their permission.

In a statement issued today (October 8), the band criticised his campaign's alleged disregard for creativity intellectual property.

They said: "This isn't the first time the McCain campaign has used a song without making any attempt to get approval or permission from the artist. It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property."

4. It appears that they operate under the idea of "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for
permission and be refused". What morans they are, over and over and over.

Time to find out what McCain has said and voted where intellectual property (for example dvd reproduction and bootlegs copies) are concerned and blast him with that.

Before long, we will be able to find his integrity up for bid on Ebay!

31. It was the favorite advice given by Admiral Grace Hopper.
She used to advise audiences that they should just go ahead when they feel they have a good idea, because it's always easier to get forgiveness for success than permission to try.

Another pioneer computer scientist (I'm blanking on his name) said much the same thing, only his central point was that if you try to get permission, what you're more likely to get is fired because all the drones will rally around, kill your idea, and put the blame on you.

Bucky Fuller and Niccolo Macchiavelli also gave similar advice.

I seem to see a trend.

11. This Is Going to Be More of An Issue in the Years To Come
Because of how record labels are structuring deals, these days. Everybody wants in on music licensing. More labels are demanding licensing rights from artists as part of the 360 deals. Artists who sign anything that doesn't give them explicit approval are going to find the use of their creations out of their control.

Good thing the RIAA fought for intellectual property rights, huh?

33. The Wilsons certainly did.
They can complain about McCain's use of their song while acknowledging that they signed away the rights to its licensing and that McCain's properly paying royalties.

In other words, their real beef is that they signed something to get money, and either didn't read it or didn't mean it. Either way, the Wilson sisters have said their word, their signature, means only what they reinterpret it to mean years later, and that they have no idea what contracts mean. Of course, that's not true in general: If their record label, licensing agency, or agent were to pull the same stunt with them they'd be pissed. They sing well, but they act like spoiled 3-year olds in desperate need of a legal guardian to decide things like their finances, diet, and sleeping schedule.

I assume the other groups that are acting out when they're told they're being held to their word are no better.

14. McCain's going to have to start raiding his
collection of 1920's 72rpm vinyl records to find a song to play at his rallies since the recording artists will likely be dead.

Have you seen the well-to-do
Up and down Park Avenue
On that famous thoroughfare
With their noses in the air
High hats and narrow collars
White spats and lots of dollars
Spending every dime
For a wonderful time
Now, if you're blue
And you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz
Different types who wear a daycoat
Pants with stripes and cutaway coat
Perfect fits
Puttin' on the Ritz
Dressed up like a million dollar trooper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super-duper
Come, let's mix where Rockefellers
Walk with sticks or "umberellas"
In their mitts
Puttin' on the Ritz
Tips his hat just like an English chappie
To a lady with a wealthy pappy
Very snappy
You'll declare it's simply topping
To be there and hear them swapping
Smart tidbits
Puttin' on the Rittz

18. I have ENORMOUS respect for Da' Foos.
And let me tell you, after 27 years in the music bidness, I ain't got much, if any, respect for much of anything about it. They are great musicians, they write great songs, Taylor Hawkins is, perhaps, the best drummer in rock today, and Dave Grohl has incredible integrity in the face of the level of success they have attained. I come from an era where rock had to have a certain amount of "power and glory" in it to move folks and Da' Foos have it in spades. Frankly, I see them cut from the same general bolt of goods as Springsteen: honest rock, played with integrity by folks with integrity, and their fans come first. They come to play, they come to put on a show and they deliver, every stinkin' time. Professionals to their marrow.

You won't hear me say this much anymore, but they are a band I would love to work for. I would come out of retirement in a minute. I'll polish Grohl's guitars and tune them any time.

46. Im right there ....
I played in bands for 16 or so years .... loved the energy and power of my guitar sound, mixed with the whole band, in tune, in time, and pulsing with the heads in the crowd as it rolled off the stage ...

Man .... That is an awesome feeling ... I miss it ...

And yeah ..... Dave Grohl brings it with heart and integrity ... and an amazing sensitivity and tenderness with his acoustic stuff as well .... I still think 'In Your Honor' is one of rock's great albums ... He carries on and perfects some great rock traditions ...

I dont worship many in the modern age ... but Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor rank high on my Respect-O-Meter ...

They speak for me ....

Here are The Foo's paying homage to Pete Townshend and the Who this last year: Young Man Blues ...

25. I like the irony of Foo Fighters taking on an ex-Navy pilot
Witnesses often assumed that the foo fighters were secret weapons employed by the enemy, but they still remained unidentified post-war. Despite these fears, there are no reports of injuries resulting from actions of foo fighters.

Though usually thought of as smaller blobs of light or fire, several different types of reported phenomena, including large structured objects, were classified as "foo fighters".

41. I thought of a song McCain can use.
Alice Cooper s a big Republican. And he wrote a song about running for office too.

Elected Lyrics
Artist(Band):Alice Cooper

I'm your top prime cut of meat, I'm your choice,
I wanna be elected,
I'm your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce,
I wanna be elected,
Kids want a savior, don't need a fake,
I wanna be elected,
We're all gonna rock to the rules that I make,
I wanna be elected, elected, elected.

I never lied to you, I've always been cool,
I wanna be elected,
I gotta get the vote, and I told you 'bout school,
I wanna be elected, elected, elected,
Hallelujah, I wanna be selected,
Everyone in the United States of America.

We're gonna win this one, take the country by storm,
We're gonna be elected,
You and me together, young and strong,
We're gonna be elected, elected, elected,
Respected, selected, call collected,
I wanna be elected, elected.

"And if I am elected
I promise the formation of a new party
A third party, the Wild Party!
I know we have problems,
We got problems right here in Central City,
We have problems on the North, South, East and West,
New York City, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles,
Detroit, Chicago,
Everybody has problems,
And personally, I don't care."
