8. The "rapidly worsening situation on the ground" may be that Karzai and the Taliban
are in talks about a truce and shared government, brokered by Saudi Arabia. Upshot: Peace may break out and the U.S. military can go home. And the heroin trade might well be jeopardized in that case.

War boondoggle, heroin boondoggle, spying boondoggle, prison boondoggle, and whatever other boondoggles our Corpo/fascists have going over there--all in trouble.

Sorry, I don't have a link, but I just saw this news report about Karzai and the Taliban here at DU yesterday.

Why a Karzai/Taliban truce would be good: We can't afford wars any more. The Bushwhacks have bankrupted us, totally unto the 7th generation. We could leave, and maybe muster up some credit to buy generic aspirin for any of our citizens making under a million dollars a year who get sick. Wounded veterans could even get some aspirin. We're losing that war; never should have gone there (didn't they read about Alexander the Great?); time to retreat. A stable Afghanistan will GREATLY help in producing a stable Pakistan.

Downside: All the corporate war profiteering from that situation ceases, until they make up some other shit--say, the mortal threat to us from the Venezuelan poor having food on the table.

(Hilarious bit at BoRev.net, about how Venezuela's going to land on its feet, and maybe is going to be the only country on earth left standing as the Buswhacks melt us all down in the Final Looting.
http://www.borev.net/2008/10/hey_look_whos_going_to_ride_ou.html ) (See BoRev's front page for what the Bushwhacks' are spending our last dime on. Guffaw!)

9. Well, after all, they've had less than seven years to come up with a strategy.
Rome wasn't built in seven years.

Or is this just the Bushista version of the seven-year-itch?

Surely they can't be actually reacting to realities on the ground. ;-)
