US Secret Service probes death threats against Obama(investigation dropped)
Source: AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The US Secret Service has investigated an alleged death threat against Democrat Barack Obama shouted Monday at a rally for his Republican rival John McCain and running mate Sarah Palin, an agency spokesman told AFP Thursday.

The probe by the service that protects US presidents, past and present, visiting world leaders and US presidential candidates, stems from a report by The Washington Post about a shout, "kill him," heard during the rally when Obama's name came up.

~snip~

"We take every threat very seriously. Every time we receive or are reported information like that, we follow up," said Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan

~snip~

Donovan said it wasn't clear whether the threat was actually vocalized or, if so, if it was meant for Obama or even Ayers, both of whose names were uttered by Palin at that moment in her speech.

For those reasons, he added, the investigation was dropped.

that little gem???

On the topic of your post - they sure as shit better be investigating the fucking stupid hatefilled motherfuckers at the McAnus speech...every one of those sick fucks should be arrested, locked up, horsewhipped and flung into salt water twice a day, every day, for the rest of their sorry-assed little lives.

2. But peaceful protesters outside the RNC convention are clubbed
go figure.

If Obama is elected, I would suggest he purge the Secret Service from top to bottom.

3. That is scary, because they usually err on the side of caution.
To say it wasn't specific enough means they are willing to err on the side of letting an attack happen.

4. Bullsh!t. You can't take it seriously AND stop investigating at the same time.
I think Barbara Boxer needs to hear about this.

What do you think?

29. Why can't the SS talk to McCain/Palin about inciting the crowds?
Forget the Freedom of Speech here - We're talking about Presidential safety here. Seeing that McCain and Palin are elected officials they have a responsibility to set the tone.

It's about decorum. We see it all the time - consistently on the Congressional floor.

What worries me - no actually frightens me - is that mentally ill person in the crowd or sitting at home - you know the person that hears voices - voices that tell him/her to do things - to do things to set things 'right' in the world. This is the kind of person who will most likely act out what McCain, Palin and friends incite.

the Bush Justice Department. It has been thoroughly corrupted. We're on our own for now.

8. Nice....
Now can you imagine what this would've ballooned into had it happened at an Obama rally? We'd be hearing about it on the corporate media until the election.

10. I've known some Secret Service people
I haven't known any that weren't honest and forthright. They are good people who take their responsibilities seriously. They are willing to risk their lives for Presidents, candidates or their families.

One of my friends in the Secret Service during the 1996 convention brought me back a pin from the convention. She was so excited to be there. She also served in the National Guard.

They are willing to lay their lives down and have proven this. We should never disrespect these people. I love them.

11. I went to the Secret Service website...
And wrote an email saying that I strongly believed that what these candidates were doing was highly dangerous and must be addressed for the safety of all of our candidates. You have to fill out a short form, but I think it's worth flooding thier inbox with our concern: http://www.ustreas.gov/usss/contact.shtml

14. Republicans
Let's be clear, there are many people out there, decent honorable people who are republicans. Have a little pity for them, as they must surely be ashamed of what their party has become. I hope that all here will be gracious to any of these honorable people because they are not to be condemned any more then we are at fault because of the actions of some radical sixty's activists. To be sure most of the activist protesters of that era were also good and honest people, but let's not forget that our hands are not entirely clean. That said I'm sure that inside of government circles there will be a purge, because many were not just doing their job, but were zealots like their little georgie boss. Work hard vote never give up.

22. Given two incidents now, shouldn't it be SOP at rallies to have
participants speak into a recorder as they are checked in? That way if somebody speaks out something dangerous at the rally, their voice can be checked with voice recognition technology?

NO more threatening shout outs or you WILL be investigated.

If McCain can't /won't control his audience the Secret Service certainly can.

the SS says they drop the investigation only to keep it on the low down, so this way any morans out there that feel completely safe to shout stupidity at the failin's nazi rally's will be easily caught.
