McCain Camp defends Death Chants
Source: NBC News

From NBC's Mark Murray

Earlier today, Obama remarked on recent outbursts of "Traitor!" "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!" at McCain campaign events. "It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States."

In response, McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace released this statement, NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports. "Barack Obama's assault on our supporters is insulting and unsurprising. These are the same people obama called 'bitter' and attacked for 'clinging to guns' and faith. He fails to understand that people are angry at corrupt practices in Washington and Wall Street and he fails to understand that America's working families are not 'clinging' to anything other than the sincere hope that Washington will be reformed from top to bottom."

"Attacking our supporters is a new low for the campaign that's run more millions of dollars of negative ads than any other in history."

*** UPDATE *** McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers adds in another statement: “Barack Obama’s attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain. It is clear that Barack Obama just doesn’t understand regular people and the issues they care about. He dismisses hardworking middle class Americans as clinging to guns and religion, while at the same time attacking average Americans at McCain rallies who are angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo."

44. Anyone who wakes up a mob is a fool
because you cannot control a mob and it sometimes will turn on you when you disappoint it. mccain and palin better be watching their own backs because they are creating a world of chaos around them. Wouldn't want to be them. Even if they win now by some miracle (cheating), they will be hated by so many.

54. I'm not that worried about Obama. I'm sure he knows exactly what is up.
I don't think there are any illusions in his camp about the dangers. I'm worried about McCain and Palin and random bystanders. If you read about it, McCain's "supporters" are pissed off at him for losing, and they are dumb as a box of rocks.

So it's not all that surprising, really. And their deliberate muddling of a critique of brainless mobsters calling for blood and the legitimate, righteous anger the Republicans have earned over the past quarter century of robber baronism just clinches the case (as far as I'm concerned) for designating the GOP a terrorist organization.

It wouldn't make sense and would be way more difficult to incite an Obama supporter to that level of violence. These are all desperate stunts by a desperate campaign. McShame has been taking the wrong guidance from his team. He has definitely strayed from the path... well his path anyway. The old McShame would have been difficult to beat. It's like they are handing this election to us. Very odd and very strange.

Did you read the post about the for hire plant at his rally? These are very desperate people. I hope they find the peace they need.

65. Veruca Salt....
She was the spoiled brat in the "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" movie.

In the first movie, she wanted a golden goose, and ended up diving down the shoot
to retrieve a golden egg. In the version, she wanted a trained squirrel, and ended up
being carried away and thrown down the garbage shoot by the trained squirrels.

Kind of an obscure reference, I guess. :)

41. So, you aren't saying it aint so...

NBC's Mark Murray (Oct8, 2008):
Earlier today, Obama remarked on recent outbursts of "Traitor!" "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!" at McCain campaign events. "It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States."

McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace's response: "Barack Obama's assault on our supporters is insulting and unsurprising."

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers laters offers: “Barack Obama’s attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain.

Perhaps McInsane should hire some folks who speak English, because above Obama chided McCain against inciting a mob.
Actually, that is a pretty serious claim, with legs, needing a serious response.
Yet McCain's half-witted campaign "brain trust" obviously thought Obama was addressing the mob rather than the campaign, ie THEM.
Are they deaf? Dim-witted? Can they get NOTHING RIGHT? No wonder McCain has lost 20 points of polls recently.

In effect, the non-denial denial leaves us wondering what they are snorting down there at Repuk central.
They needed to deny they were inciting a mob, and promise not to do it again.
At least they had the good sense to admit it was their mob (supporters).
(No, wait! That's what they should have denied. Idiots! Are there no grown-ups down there?)

And there you have it. Yer classic campaign meltdown. How sweet.
Someone take some pictures of McCain's bozos for the comedy hall of fame.
hey!

50. No that is a spin...a red herring.
They took the attention off of Obama's accusation of mccain and turned it back on Obama's earlier statements that Hillary made such a big production about. That is how a bait and switch is done in politics. These guys are crooks, slimy beyond any hope of redemtion and a lot of other stuff that I don't like. I just hope that most US citizens are smart enough to see through this smoke screen they are throwing up. :grr:

42. this is getting silly
the people who cling to their guns and religion in these hard times are joe six packs. mc cain and his chums are like a big balloon when the air is escaping fast, they just blow in any direction that the hot air carries them. anyone who thinks they are joe six pack should be insulted. the term means lazy, not well educated, drink beer because it is all they can afford to forget their troubles and usually live in run down trailers. the mc cain chimps need to explain what is a joe six pack and stop insulting people.

Seriously. The McCain campaign has the rapidly morphing moral structure of the classic sociopath. They genuinely do not get it.

And, apparently, a certain percentage of their supporters are natural lynch mobsters ... and are indeed just like 'em.

who should the crowd be more angry at? That's a poor fucking excuse John; since you've been part of the problem longer, you bear more responsibility for the corruption.

55. So I can only assume...
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 05:27 PM by ImForGore
that if someone in an Obama or Biden crowd yelled "rape her" when they mention Sarah Palin, the McCain supporters, McCain himself and Sarah would all be cool with that. I'm sorry, but Kill Him, Traitor and Terrorist, are so far across the line of what should be acceptable by any decent human being that it makes my head spin. And how the McCain campaign can do anything other than condemn those who said such things in the strongest possible terms shows just how desperate they are to win, and to what depths they'll sink to accomplish that. Fortunately for sane people everywhere, it looks like they are destined to failure.

Yeah, Can you imagine how Fox News would handle an Obama supporter yelling "Rape her"?

58. It's too bad they don't listen to Senator Obama nor understand their own language...
Senator Obama has stated many times, equivocally and carefully that those who support this feeble old man and the "lipstick pig" are good people, sincere people, and true Americans as much as anyone else.

Just listen to what he is proposing. Listen to what the old fart and his "bitch from up north" are talking about....Ayers, Reverend Wright, Farrakhan, Islamic education, "Barack Hussein Obama", etc.

I'm sorry, but I honestly think most of the supporters for the old war coward and his piggy partner are deaf and/or stupid. They honestly believe this trickle down theory of making the wealthy MORE wealthy while killing off the middle class is GOOD FOR THEM??!

Idiots.

59. Notice how cleverly the speaker diverts attention from the real issue..
which concerns the danger inherent in provoking a crowd to violence, and turns it instead to an argument over whether Obama understands ordinary Americans' frustration with the corrupt state of our government.

Red Herring, anyone?? :eyes:

Apparently McCain and his handlers are so desperate that they're just throwing stuff out there that's obviously nonsense. "America First" my bonnie backside... the fact is that McCain is only out to help McCain and to heck with anyone and anything that gets in their way... even if it hurts others and our country. If he truly have a rat's butt about America he wouldn't be condoning and encouraging this type of nasty and horribly divisive behavior.

They have lost everyone except the rabid right wing and fundamentalist end timer vote so all they can do is rile them up to ensure they come out to vote as the GOP does it's damndest to supress everyone else's vote. I just watched the BBC's piece on how they are working to block the vote by Palast. They are utterly vile. I don't know a cuss word vile enough to describe these creatures.

They've given up trying to attract anyone else, and now they are in the position of appeasing the dregs.

Are they simply trying to avoid a complete blow-out at the polls? Do they think they risk receiving under 30%?

God it sucks to be them, on every level imaginable.

Now, is this because Barack pointed out several months ago that Republicans win most of their elections by playing the gun-grabber card, or is it more nefarious?

Normally, I'd think I was being paranoid. But in light of all the recent bullshit, I think we might seriously have a Henry II on our hands.

83. McCain's campaign has just jumped the couch!
Erratic is too mild a word for how his campaign is being run. It is IMPLODING!

Today, McCain admonished his supporters, when they were clearly out of line, for calling his opponent a "terrorist" and an "Arab", but when Obama also encouraged McCain's supporters to chill out, McCain's spokesman called it an "assault" and "insulting".

There is a big difference between McCain supporters being "angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo", as his spokesman stated, (as if Obama supporters aren't, but that's not the point here) and McCain supporter's inciting violence by tell a crowd to "Kill him (Obama)"

We all know why the crowds were talking like that in the first place. Because McCain UNDERSTOOD "that (his supporter's) are angry at corrupt practices in Washington and Wall Street and he" UNDERSTOOD "that America's working families...hope that Washington will be reformed from top to bottom", but McCain COULDN'T ADDRESS THOSE CONCERNS, because they, and all other economic issues, are LOSING ISSUES for him.

McCain IS the status quo. McCain IS what needs reforming. McCain IS the cause of corrupt practices on Wall Street.

So, this whole past week the campaign made McCain attack Obama on a coded racial level and instructed Palin to say Obama "palled around with terrorists" and was a "friend to terrorists" and a "terrorist sympathizer".

It backfired and they are back-pedaling, and flip-flopping, and damage-controlling, because THAT message was ill received by independents, undecideds and moderate republicans.

I almost feel sorry for them - NOT!

Go Obama Go. :bounce: Go Obama Go. :bounce: Go Obama Go. :bounce: Go Obama Go. :bounce:
