Jeb Bush on Stone's "W": 'Hooey'
Source: Washington Times

Oliver Stone told the Los Angeles Times he tried to make an "empathetic" psychological portrait of President Bush with his new feature film "W."

Extensive inquiries have failed to turn up any effort by Mr. Stone or his screenwriter, Stanley Weiser, to contact the president, his family or any of the principal administration figures who are portrayed in the film. . .

At the heart of "W.," though, is a psychological portrait of Mr. Bush that depicts him as living perpetually in the shadow of his father, the former president George H.W. Bush, and driven to invade Iraq at least in part by a desire to prove he is as tough as the elder statesman.

Exploring such a complicated family dynamic might have benefited from direct conversations with, say, Jeb Bush, the president's younger brother who, in the telling of Mr. Stone and Mr. Weiser, was regarded by his parents as the more promising sibling.

"I didn't receive a call," Mr. Bush, the former governor of Florida, told The Washington Times.

As for Mr. Stone's and Mr. Weiser's theory of an "Oedipal rivalry" between the 41st and 43rd presidents, Mr. Bush calls it "high-grade, unadulterated hooey."

No matter how good or bad this film may be, IMO it would be a waste of ninety minutes of one's life watching a film on any aspect of Bush's life.

Even the wingnuts can't build up enough interest to raise stink about the film.

1. my guess would be that Oliver didn't call because
he didn't want to be lied to or have the NSA on his tail any more then it already is.

3. It is kind of ironic...lots of time and money went into what may even be a "good" film
but I agree, I would not waste any of my time and money to watch ANYTHING about prez shit-for-brains....unless it was his televised trial for war crimes....
No one I know is going to see it...and as you said, even the repukes are not interested since it does not glorify the Chimp.

and see no point in watching it fictionalized.

25. I'll see it, but I absolutely hear you.
After January, the only time I want to watch him anywhere is when he is on TV being arrested, the verdict is being read at his trial, and him being led off to prison.

That's it after this.

I haven't made up my mind whether I'm going to see it or not. Sort of surprised to see you intend to. Want to say why?

I have a lot of emotions about * but "sympathetic" isn't one of them.

21. I plan on going.
jeebus, if woodward can write fictional accounts of what goes on w/i the west wing, I can go see an Oliver Stone movie about the coked-up frat boy.

I liked Rachel's interview w/ Stone Tuesday night.

12. a must
everyone who has supported, liked a bush should see this movie. i have not but my son has and his opinion is all should see what their prez mentality is. i read many books before 2000 about bush and what i read is pretty much in the movie. info has been collaborated by bush cronies--off the record of course. even his own family were laughing that we elected their family clown.

19. True, but reports on Bush family quotes are best when coming from 'THE' GOP print mouthpiece
the Moonie Times.

The angle of this story was Bush family reaction and Moonie Times and the Bush family arethisclose.

24. It made me angry
I want him held accountable. I want him behind bars. But all we are getting is a movie. It does tell his story but it is depressing that he was allowed to rise to the presidency and fuck up our country and will ride off into the sunset in a few months.

Portrayed Bush as a pathetic twit who's daddy issues destroyed the country. But tried to make you feel sorry for him. And Thandie Newton as Condi was just creepy as hell.

33. I saw the movie last night. It was surreally sympathetic to the Tard King
It showed him as a dimwit, but not an cruel, sociopathic liar and con artist.

One scene near the end was really disturbing because I remember the real life version. A reporter asks Bush if there's anything he would do differently as president after he's been in office a few years and his approval is slipping. Bush can't come up with anything.

In the film, Bush seems chastened and struggles for words as if overcome with regret, confusion, and guilt.

In real life when Bush was asked that, he looked like he couldn't even entertain the thought that he had made a mistake. If he was upset at all, it was at the questioner for being less than fawning and deferential.

That is an inexplicably inaccurate to the point of being dishonest choice on Oliver Stone's part.

36. A thousand years from now, people will STILL say W is an asshole!
The first thing President Obama will do is take our flag and put in in a washing machine with enough detergent to wash W's skidmarks off of it!

It's going to take a generation to undo the damage President Asshole has done!
