Dole attacks Democrat with second 'Godless' ad
Source: The Hill

Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) has released a second "Godless Americans" ad attacking Democrat Kay Hagan in what increasingly looks like the nastiest battle of the cycle.

The new ad appears to take a step back from Dole's earlier controversial ad this week that suggested Hagan, who is ahead in polls, is an atheist.

11. YouTube is full of discussion of this.
Republicans and various others are blasting Dole for this, or at least mocking her. What kind of a campaign are you running when Ed-freaking-Rollins is disparaging you?

38. Sorry not even close.
This attack ad was pure deception by Dole with a voice over at the end of the ad that intimated it was Hagan herself saying "there is no God". This attack is diametrically opposed to Hagan's own belief system which Dole was well aware of and was by design, an attempt to destroy her standing within the Christian community. Kay Hagan's response is NOT an attack on or a put down of the atheist community.

Up to now, Helms' "white hands crumpling up a job application" ad -- run while Helms (R-KKK) was running against then-Charlotte mayor Harvey Gantt, an African American -- has stood as the sleaziest political ad in NC -- or, perhaps, American -- political history. Sen. Dole (R-Now You Know Why Bob Needs Viagra) is giving her all in a herculean effort to "top" it. :eyes:

at the age of 14, the 1990 N.C. Senate race was the first one i ever followed closely... that was an incredibly underhanded and dirty race...and even despite all that, the polls had Gantt with a slight lead with a couple of days to go...

27. As a christian I apologize for this kind of stuff
I belong to a liberal mainline Protestant church. Perhaps we were too lax as a congregation to fight this kind of an attitude by our fundamentalist Christian brothers and sisters. Maybe we were blinded to the fact that Christians can and will act in the most uncharitable manner. Please know that not all churches are like that. In fact our congregation is almost like a defacto Democratic Party staging ground right about now. We are horrified that some one who we share the same faith with, would treat another is such a fashion. While our Christian training and beliefs may guide how we individually vote or govern if ever elected to an office...we would never render such a litmus test to any candidate.
Where in the constitution does it say that church attendance or Christian belief is a requirement to hold office?

30. Dole should go back to selling bananas
Although, atheists are kind of silly. Of course there's a God. Religions give God a bad name, and distort your understanding of God. But, God is without question real. I can prove it to you in just a few sentences.

What is God? Something all-powerful, with absolute laws and an authority which cannot be challenged. Now what is that a description of? I'll give you a clue, it's everything and nothing, surrounding you and everything else at all times, and is part of everything you have ever known...

Give up? It's the Universe. Which actually makes scientists the real theologians.

31. If that's your definition, then it's a meaningless one.
Atheists are not silly for not accepting something for which there is no evidence - the universe isn't a god, and science isn't a religion.

44. Parts of this campaign have become like that Seinfeld episode.
The one where they deny being gay, but qualify with "not that there's anything wrong with that". Our side is forced to point out that Obama is not a Mulsim or an A-rab because 1)it's not true and 2)a large segment of the public won't vote either one into the Presidency, hence the charge in the first place. But then we need to point out "not that there's anything wrong with that".

Calling someone an atheist shouldn't be an insult, but apparently it is. Kay Hagan is NOT an atheist, not that there's anything wrong with that.

50. And what is WRONG with being Godless ??
Bush-1 had the answer to that:

"... I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Very few people accept any g(G)od(s) but their own - this makes most people non-believers in most gods.

52. I just sent Dole a 'fuck you' email
Your new ad "Godless Americans" which tries to ridicule Kay Hagen with the George Bush Senior's BS from 1987

"Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Republican(t)s are the least patriotic people on the planet, the most selfish, rudest, coldest people alive. The best possible Government is one without Republican(t)s in it.

I can not say that Kay is an Atheist, but it sure would be great and OK if she was. While you use bronze age desert dogma to base your judgment upon; she on the other hand would use sound logic and reason.

I am looking forward to you losing your seat; intolerance and bigotry has no place in our Government.
