Schauer wins, Walberg ousted
Source: Battle Creek Enquirer

"It's a tough district. A Democrat has never held this seat," Schauer said. "It's difficult to unseat an incumbent and we knew we'd have to run a near-perfect campaign to do it."

Schauer said there is a clear contrast between candidates and he expected the race to be close.

"I think it was really a story of turning Michigan's economy around one job at a time," he said. "I think we really had a great ground game."

1. As I remember, Walberg was the ONLY person in 2006 to defeat an incumbent from the right
even if it was another Republican, so it's good that a Dem finally beat him!

4. That's quite a step up for Schauer
I remember when he was just a city councilman, then he ran as state rep (unfortunately, I was a repig when I lived in the cereal city, but in spite of that I would admit that I liked the guy when my fundie friends weren't listening...sad...)

I noticed he was running for House a couple weekends ago when I went to the 'creek to visit Gram, and hoped he'd get the seat. Go Mark go!

5. I proudly voted for Schauer
He's pretty conservative, but Kucinich would never be elected here, we will definitely take the seat.

6. Walberg was the kind of dittohead sludge that we need to flush.
Thanks to all the good folks in Jackson et al that flushed him down the toilet of history.

11. I've heard several places claim to be the birth place of the GOP
including Jackson, MI. Not sure why anyone would want that distinction.

12. Very happy for Schauer
and for Gary Peters. I just wish Joe Larkin could've taken out Thaddeus McCotter. McCotter only won by 6% (51-45). Larkin only spent 16,000 and was completely unknown. A little support from the national party could've taken out another Republican. But congrats to Schauer and Peters :)
