Pa. defense firm raided by FBI
By Reid Wilson
Posted: 01/22/09 04:57 PM

Federal agents raided the offices of a Western Pennsylvania defense contractor that has received millions in federal earmarks at the request of Rep. John Murtha, according to local media reports.

The offices of Kuchera Industries and Kuchera Defense Systems were shuttered for the day following the raids, the chief financial officer told the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat. The companies' phone system says they will open again Friday morning, and e-mails sent to top company officials went unanswered.

Based in Windber, Pa., just outside Johnstown, Kuchera won $8.2 million in federal defense earmarks in the 2008 budget. The earmarks came at the request of Murtha (D-Pa.).

Murtha's spokesman declined to comment, and an agent in the FBI's Pittsburgh office did not return calls seeking clarification.

2. Bushes NEVER forget and are extremely vengeful. Expect targets on any Dem who truly crossed them
like Dean and Kerry. I also expect Hagel will find some trouble coming his way. Poppy Bush has been ensnaring lawmakers using attractive business deals since his Nixon days. Anyone think he ever gave up that tactic?

the only one. PAYBACK TIME! Bush/Cheney left "orders." They will be obeyed by the vengeful, as you say.

3. Why now?

sure you can say all you want about political payback and such, but the way to go for the repukes would have been to break this just before the election. A scandal involving a Democrat AND, if I recall, Murtha had a serious challenger as well.

As I remember it, a few years ago (in Pennsylvania even) it was leaked during a campaign that one of the candidates was being investigated by the FBI for "unknown charges". Since the FBI doesn't comment on ongoing investigations, they wouldn't even confirm if there was an investigation or if the politician was involved (as a target or a witness or a "related figure"). I can't remember who it was, though. I think it was for a congressional seat.

14. Good. If there's nothing to hide, then there won't be a problem under the Obama Justice Dept.

And if there is something to hide, drag it out into the sunlight.

That whole situation has smelled bad for years.
