Iraq to Reopen Notorious Abu Ghraib Prison
Source: NY Times

Filed at 6:46 a.m. ET

BAGHDAD (AP) -- A senior justice official says the Iraqi government will reopen the notorious Abu Ghraib prison next month, but it will have a new name.

The announcement comes as the U.S. military has begun handing over detainees in its custody to the Iraqis under a new security agreement.

Deputy Justice Minister Busho Ibrahim says the renovated facility will be called Baghdad's Central Prison because the previous name has left a ''bitter feeling inside Iraqis' hearts.''

Ibrahim adds the prison will house 3,500 inmates when it reopens in mid-February and will have a capacity for about 15,000 by the end of this year.

1. New name will help - The Exxon Mediteranian is a perfect example (it was Valdez).
And in case you missed it, even though the Valdez was in dry dock for repairs, they STILL didn't fit it with a second hull. They just slapped on some metal, painted it, and changed the name.

I suppose Abu Ghraib (Abby Gabby, as Dubya would say) will get fresh paint, but I bet they keep the electrodes.

5. Didn't pResident Asshat say it was going to be torn down?
Or was it that he said New Orleans would be rebuilt? Or both.
