Plans expand for Bush library in Dallas
Published: Feb. 17, 2009 at 1:45 PM

DALLAS, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Organizers say plans for George W. Bush's presidential library in Dallas have expanded and it will be twice as large as his father's presidential library.

The proposed library complex at Southern Methodist University has grown to 207,000 square feet, about the size of a Wal-Mart Super Center, The Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday.

Looking for design tips, engineers and architects for the younger Bush's library last week toured the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University at College Station.

Architects and officials from the National Archives have been meeting regularly in preparation for the first major review of the younger Bush's library, museum and policy think tank's preliminary plans.

"It's like a cake being baked in the oven. It's still changing," said Mark Langdale, president of the George W. Bush Foundation, which aims to raise $300 million for construction and endowment of the complex.

25. And a pResidential ball pit between the slots and monster truck arena.
Seriously, the size of a WalMart super center? Hell, just leave it empty and it could be a to-scale model of *'s brain. It's not as if they're going to put the truth of the past eight years on display, so they may as well stick with what they know.

9. I wonder...
are they going to put the Viking he went to the USS Abraham Lincoln on in the middle of the library?

I figure you'll go in there and you'll see...

the airplane under the Mission Accomplished banner--or at least a close facsimile

the statue of Saddam we toppled

the gallows they dangled Saddam from

a little vial. "This vial could contain enough Deadly Lethal Nerve Agent to kill up to 10,000 people, and it's the reason we liberated Iraq." Standing next to it will be a guy we pay $15 per hour to rip down signs that read, "yeah, and it's more Deadly Lethal Nerve Agent than we ever found in Iraq."

an empty filing cabinet labeled "Bush Administration Papers That Have Been Released Into The Public Domain."

a shelf containing all the books he claimed to have read on his vacations. None will ever have been opened.

41. It's in Big D, the town that worships commerce, so I'd guess it'll mostly be gift shop
A quick review of Big D architectural tastes suggests that it will look cheap and ugly but will cost a fortune to build

I'd guess big mirrored glass box, cleverly positioned to sun-blind rush-hour drivers

38. I guess he wanted to make sure his was bigger than Clinton's
Clinton's is 150,000 square feet, but then isn't it built in a remote urban location on land that used to be a train station's location? And it's surrounded by a park. Bush's library is in prime real estate.
