Murphy (D) up by 252 with only 3 precincts still out. Looks like another Democratic win! this will be the end of Michael Steele's Excellent Adventure as GOP chair.

5. Don't forget about the absentees!
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 09:43 PM by djg21
Pursuant to an agreement resolving a lawsuit brought against the State Board of Elections by DOJ, absentee ballots will be accepted through April 13, and the election cannot be certified until then. With the margin so tight, the absentees from the military might become a factor.

Local TV news reports that its still 50/50, with murphy just pulling ahead.

10. Clearly, for the good of the state of New York
Tedisco should concede and Murphy should be seated immediately.

9. TOO CLOSE TO CALL: Murphy has tiny lead; Absentee ballots to be counted
TOO CLOSE TO CALL: Murphy has tiny lead; Absentee ballots to be counted

There were more than 10,000 absentee ballots issued and about 6,000 returned by Tuesday, none of which was to be counted Tuesday night, according to state elections officials. New York agreed to count overseas absentee ballots until April 13 — instead of the initial April 7 cutoff — after the U.S. Department of Justice sued the state for not giving overseas absentee voters enough time to return ballots.

Both campaigns were cautious about the unofficial results.

Murphy’s campaign spokesman Ryan Rudominer said, “Obviously, it’s too close to call, but we feel great about the campaign.”

Tedisco’s spokesman Adam Kramer had a similar statement, saying, “it’s very, very close.”

An impound order filed in state Supreme Court in Dutchess County prevents election boards in the 20th District from counting all absentee, affidavit, military and other paper ballots at poll sites on the day of the election. It directs election boards to count the paper ballots at their offices.

The state Republican Committee and the Dutchess County Conservative Committee filed the order Tuesday. The order also gives strict instructions on how ballots should be counted to ensure an accurate number of votes.
