China general tells troops Party trumps state
Source: Reuters

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's military must be loyal first and foremost to the ruling Communist Party rather than the state, a senior general wrote in a piece published on Wednesday, stressing politics even as the armed forces seek to modernize.

The comments also come in a year of sensitive political anniversaries which may lead to protests and dissent, adding to government worries about unrest as bankruptcies and unemployment rise due to slowing exports amid the global financial crisis.

China's defense spending has risen steadily in recent years as it seeks to turn a bloated and outdated force into a sleek military able to project power well beyond its borders.

This year's military budget will grow to 480.7 billion yuan ($70.35 billion), a 14.9 percent rise on last year, prompting the Pentagon to express concern last month about the limited transparency accompanying China's rapidly expanding capabilities.

3. Ah Crap! The Republicans are going to want to do that here.
Any member of the US Military signing a loyalty pledge to the Republican party or a republican leader should be charged with treason. This would obviously be done in advance of a coup. That would make the Republican party a Domestic enemy of the US Constitution. Those Military members signing the pledge would be giving aid to that Domestic Enemy and therefore be guilty of treason.

4. Sounds like they plan on busting some heads if workers protest about the economic slowdown
as opposed to external threats;

China's military must be loyal first and foremost to the ruling Communist Party rather than the state .

5. "China's military...
...must be loyal first and foremost to the ruling Communist Party rather than the state,..."

....the Chinese are sounding more and more like us....our military has been loyal first and foremost to our ruling Capitalist Parties....they've fought political and economic wars for over a hundred years on their behalf....

....the only real difference is the Chinese have only one ruling Communist party while we have two ruling Capitalist parties....that makes us better....
