Another 9/11 victim identified

Medical examiner's office says Manuel Emilio Mejia has been identified from remains found at the World Trade Centre site

Associated Press
guardian.co.uk, Thursday 2 April 2009 03.17 BST

New York City has positively matched another September 11 victim to long-held human remains after retesting DNA.

The city medical examiner's office says 54-year-old Manuel Emilio Mejia has been identified from remains found at the World Trade Centre site in the months after the 2001 terrorist attack.

Mejia was a kitchen worker at Windows on the World, the restaurant on top of the trade centre's north tower.

Nearly 2,800 people are on the city's September 11 victims list, but more than 40% of them have never been identified from remains.

I hope this brings closure to Mejia's family.

RIP

1. Just another one of those "little Eichmanns," eh?
Don't worry, that was said with the drippingest of :sarcasm:

How sad that it may take much, much longer before it's possible for all the carefully stored remains of all these people to be identified so that their families "know"--and have something to bury, if they want to.

3. I say this without an ounce of sarcasm...
Lou Dobbs will probably hate this news, questioning whether or not the guy was here legally.

2. You have got to hear this song
It's by Emma's Revolution, and it deals with the "forgotten" victims at the World Trade Center. Lyrics printed below for those who can't listen to the song:

http://emmasrevolution.com/media/clips/one/One-03-If-I-Give-Your-Name.mp3

Mi esposa, my wife, worked on the 80th floor
The company had hired illegals before
She got the job by word of mouth
That's the way in the north when you're from the south
They say 3,000 but the counting's not done
Mi esposa está muerta
Three thousand and one

I have no papers, I have no rights
All my days end in sleepless nights
Missing you, silently
If I give your name
Will they come after me?

Mi hermano, my brother, the elevator man
A doctor in our country but you take what you can
I saw the photos in Union Square
But I could not leave his picture there
They say 3,000 but that's not true
Mi hermano no volverá
Three thousand and two

I have no papers, I have no rights
All my days end in sleepless nights
Missing you, silently
If I give your name
Will they come after me?

Mi hija, my daughter, went in early that day
She had always been that way
Her daughter asks, "Where did she go?"
How to tell her, I don't know
They say 3,000 but that can't be
Perdí a mi hija
Three thousand and three

I have no papers, I have no rights
All my days end in sleepless nights
Missing you, silently
If I give your name
Will they come after me?

Mi padre, my father, I have no words
I tried to find you when I heard
They gave some ashes to families
But I'll only have the ones I breathe
They say 3,000 there's so many more
Desaparecidos
Three thousand and four

I have no papers, I have no rights
All my days end in sleepless nights
Missing you, silently
If I give your name
Will they come after me?

Mi esposa, my wife
Will they come after me?
Mi hermano, my brother
Will they come after me?
Mi hija, my daughter
Will they come after me?
Mi padre, my father
If I give your name
Will they come after me?

7. No doubt.
My heart really breaks when I think there must be people who don't dare ask what happened to the one they loved, for fear of being "discovered."
