CNN WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The release of sensitive "torture" documents has been delayed again after an agreement between lawyers for the Obama administration and the American Civil Liberties Union, a source said Thursday.
The three 2005 memos were written by a Justice Department lawyer to provide guidance on "enhanced interrogation techniques" used against terrorism suspects.
"We're still working out the terms of the extension" of Thursday's deadline, said the source, who was not authorized to disclose the information before the details were completed.
The extension was expected to be for a short time, the source said. "We're not talking months."
The ACLU has indicated that it will support another relatively short delay so long as the documents in question are eventually released.
