Police arrest 2 in 'horrific' child abuse case
Source: SF Chronicle

Three children were beaten, fed only once a week and confined to a San Pablo backyard for two years before they escaped and wandered into a nearby bar pleading for help, authorities said Thursday.

Police have arrested two women, the grandmother and an aunt of the children, on charges of abuse.

The 13-year-old girl and twin 11-year-old boys lived in inhumane conditions in the yard of a home on the 2500 block of 22nd Street until they escaped March 26, said San Pablo police Lt. Mark Foisie.

Patrons at La Movida Night Club, on San Pablo Avenue just blocks from the home, were stunned to see the emaciated children asking for help, police said.

6. Seconded
Abuse of that scope certainly extends beyond the physical. I can't imagine the courage that it took to escape from that hellish prison.

Best wishes to them for years to come.

8. absolutely....
....anybody that would treat children like this needs to spend the rest of their lives in prison, or worse....

....why didn't the grandmother and aunt just turn the kids over to their local DCFS?....were they in some way making money off these kids?....are they sadists?

....let's retain gitmo for 'people' like this....

12. Seriously
The houses there look really close together. If I saw a neighbor abusing a cat or dog, I'd call the cops. Nevermind seeing dirty kids standing out there all day.
