Saudis Report Plot To Assassinate Obama
Source: cbsnews.com

The Saudi Arabian newspaper al-Watan reported today that Turkish security services have arrested a man of Syrian origins Friday in connection with a plot to assassinate President Barack Obama during his current visit to Turkey.

The man, who was carrying an Al-Jazeera TV ID card in the name of M.G., confessed after his arrest that he was planning on stabbing the U.S. president with a knife during the Alliance of Civilizations summit held in Istanbul, adding that he had three other accomplices to help him execute his plan.

According to the paper, Turkish investigators were trying to verify whether the Qatari-based Arab TV channel has truly issued the ID card produced by the man, or if it’s a forged copy.

The suspect, a permanent resident of Istanbul, has been regularly attending all conferences and events relating to the Middle East held in the city.

1.  I don't even want to imagine the complications of that.
We've always killed our presidents in house, as it were. As to what he thought it would accomplish? I can't even think of a single benefit to anyone. Rush and Cheney, maybe.

3. There doesn't have to be a "sensible" benefit at all.
All religious nuts are "rapture ready".

24. Yes, but those Swedes are Socialists
they need to be liberated and shown the joys of unregulated capitalism. And they're right by Norway - we may need to establish bases in Sweden from which we can attack Norway.

If they bomb Norway, then I guess the friendship between Norway and US are out the toilet pretty soon... But it is true, we would not suspect that... But then war is seldom something that is known in advance..

On the other side, if US want to occupy Norway I guess they have not learn it in Iraq.. And Norway is far better suited to guerrilla warfare than Iraq is.. Many places to hide here and the language is in itself a barrier.. Most Norwegian can english vell, but I believe few american can english very vell. And compared to Iraq, Norway do have a military force, even that it is just a shadow of the past..... And in our own way, we would not like to be occupied by forreigners...

Both is for Sweden and Denmark too.. They might not be that easy to stop, when we together is fighting back.. I guess that if both Sweden Denmark and Norway was invaded, it would be THE catalyst for more friendship, and military ties between the scandinavian country than ever.... And US can't occupy us forever.. As they can't occupy Iraq forever..

I fear that this will not be the only attempt.

27. Libya's "Gaddafi" says fears Obama assassination
SIRTE, Libya (Reuters) - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi Tuesday called Barack Obama a "flicker of hope in the middle of the imperialist darkness," but said he feared the president could be assassinated.

Gaddafi, known for his controversial statements, did not say who might want to kill Obama but gave the examples of the assassinations of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, as well as black rights leader Martin Luther King.

"I fear that they could liquidate this young man or force him to submit to their imperialist policies," Gaddafi told a university gathering of his supporters in Sirte, without specifying who might put Obama under pressure.

Gaddafi is no stranger to the assisination rings or plots

Assassination and aftermath
On 6 October 1981, the month after the crackdown, Sadat was assassinated during the annual victory parade in Cairo. A fatwā approving the assassination had been obtained from Omar Abdel-Rahman, a cleric later convicted in the U.S. for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Sadat was protected by four layers of security and the army parade should have been safe due to ammunition-seizure rules. However, the officers in charge of that procedure were on hajj to Mecca.
