1. Sad. So very fucking sad.
Sad that this is continuing, sad that this sham war ever happened in the first place. It's an ongoing tragedy.

4. So, things are heating up over in Iraq? This wasn't predicted?
Did not a boatload of people here say that the Sunnis and Shi'ites would just bide their time until we started to talk about or actually started withdrawal and then the sectarian violence would erupt? Well, they were right, as usual.

But this will be used as 'proof' that the Iraqi people need us to occupy their country until the last drop of oil is gone.

We broke that country and anyone who thinks WE can fix it is not playing with even half a deck.

6. From the MSNBC link
"Mosul is the last urban stronghold of al-Qaida in Iraq. Friday's blast is the largest single loss of American life in Iraq in recent months."

Given that al-Qaida were not in Iraq prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom that operation might have been more accurately been titled Operation We'regonnashootourselvesinthefootcoswe'reabunchofwankers.

7. More tragedy in a very disturbed part of the world. More flag draped caskets. Very very sad.
Blessings to their families.

I have had 2 sons in Iraq and you never forget that feeling you have when a loved one has boots on that ground. They joined the service to get the college education that we could not afford and one is still in the reserves.

10. It's past time
to bring them home...too many have spilled their blood for the sake of oil. They want us out. We want them out. I don't see what we're waiting on. Al Qaeda wasn't present until we went there. They will still be there after we leave if we ever do. You think Bush is reading the paper now? Does he care that more are still dying? Of course not. He's giving speeches.

13. What war? Why are we being distracted from important issues by this?
Because "our" administration is still fucking around continuing (and expanding) an illegal war it inherited from BushCo.

At some point, the inheritance belongs to the new generation. We are at that point.

17. listen troll
there are some on this board that actually have family members over there. It is very patriotic to question motives before sending our soldiers into harms way. If you want to lockstep with a bunch of chickenhawks, many who have gained monetarily but never have experienced the horror of war, go right ahead--but "we liberals" have also served our country!!! We're just smart enough to challenge a bully, all hat no cattle, guy about reasons going in to put our soldiers in harms way unnecessarily. It seems hiring a good public relations firm and keep telling the same lies over and over again you can at least convince some people in this country that war is a glorious thing, especially if you don't have to fight it!!!!

Suicide truck bomb kills 5 U.S. troops

11 April 2009 | 06:10 | FOCUS News Agency

Mosul. Under a hail of gunfire, a suicide bomber charged a checkpoint in northern Iraq on Friday, detonating a truck laden with explosives and killing five U.S. troops and two Iraqi policemen, Reuters informs.
The U.S. military gave the death toll in a statement and said the attack in the restive city of Mosul was the single deadliest incident for U.S. soldiers in Iraq in over a year.

Mosul, some 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, is one of two regions of Iraq where U.S. forces are still locked in major combat operations against al Qaeda and other insurgents, despite a drop in violence elsewhere in Iraq over the past year.
Iraq's Interior Ministry said the authorities had been warned of such an attack but were unsure when it might happen.
U.S. and Iraqi forces opened heavy fire on the truck after it ignored a request to stop at a checkpoint close to an Iraqi police base in southwest Mosul.

Suicide bombing kills 5 US troops in Mosul
AFP

MOSUL, Iraq: Five US troops were killed yesterday in the deadliest attack on American forces in Iraq for more than a year when a suicide truck bomber struck a police compound in the northern city of Mosul.

Two Iraqi police and an Iraqi soldier also perished in the blast, according to an Interior Ministry official. The US military considers Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, to be the last urban bastion of Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

The attack comes amid a sudden upturn in bombings nationwide including a series of blasts in Baghdad that have dealt a blow to recent upbeat assessments by American commanders about Iraq’s fragile security.

A US military spokesman said that five soldiers were killed and two others wounded in the attack, adding that the patrol seemed to have been in the area by chance and was not deliberately targeted. “It appears to have been a target of opportunity as the ... convoy was passing the national police station, and not at the headquarters conducting training,” spokesman Maj. Derrick Cheng told AFP.

In other violence yesterday, three people were killed and seven wounded in two roadside bomb attacks, according to local security officials.
