Congressman (Spencer Bachus) Says 17 House Members Are Socialists
Source: CBS News

You have to go all the way back to 1929 to find a member of the Socialist Party in the U.S. House of Representatives, but U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) says the "workers' party" is alive and kicking on Capital Hill.

While addressing elected officials yesterday in his Birmingham-area district, the conservative congressman told an audience at the Trussville Civic Center that socialists in Congress are pressuring President Obama to cater to the far left of the political spectrum, The Birmingham News reports.

"Some of these guys I work with, the men and women in Congress, are socialists," the congressman said.

When asked to name names following his remarks, Bachus could only cite one person – U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), a self-described "Democratic Socialist." But he demurred when pressed to name specific members of the House who subscribe to socialism.

He had a number though. Bachus was able to say that 17 house members are socialists.

I'm surprised that Bachus didn't remove a folded sheet of paper from his jacket, hold it up to the audience and declare, "I have a list of names right here." Joe McCarthy would be proud!

26. Here's why Bachus can say stupid crap like this.
Check out this update from Political Wire:

The New Partisan Voting Index
Charlie Cook released the lastest Partisan Voting Index (PVI) based on results from last fall's elections. The index is an attempt to find an objective measurement of each congressional district that allows comparisons between states and districts.

For instance, this chart ranks each congressional district from the most Republican (Spencer Bachus's AL-06 at R+29) to the most Democratic (Jose Serrano's NY-16 at D+41).

Key finding from the re-crunched data: There are far fewer swing districts today than there were in the 1990s and Democrats now hold most of them -- 34 of the 50 most potentially competitive districts (those that fall in the R+2 to D+2 category).

29. what gets labeled 'socialism' by these fools
is in no way socialism. They are just too far extreme right to perceive it as anything but far left. It's really not. The things being discussed are slightly left of center. Do the extremists not know they are extremists? Does this guy think he's a moderate? Is it possible that he has that little self awareness?

33. the previous administration
had skewed politics so far to the right that even normal, middle-of-the-road politics would have seemed like radical communism.

These people are so brain-dead they can't even wake up to smell the coffee anymore.

I would guess that Pres. Obama will have to spend more that a whole year just trying to get back to the lost ground that we lost previously.

35. 'I've got a little list'
As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list--I've got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed--who never would be missed!
There's the pestilential nuisances who write for autographs--
All people who have flabby hands and irritating laughs--
All children who are up in dates, and floor you with 'em flat--
All persons who in shaking hands, shake hands with you like _that_--
And all third persons who on spoiling tete-a-tetes insist--
They'd none of 'em be missed--they'd none of 'em be missed!

CHORUS. He's got 'em on the list--he's got 'em on the list;
And they'll none of 'em be missed--they'll none of
'em be missed.

37. If that ignorant reactionary fucker is so worried
about (GONG!) "socialism", then he needs to give up his congressional health care plan for which he pays an extremely low monthly price, and for which he gets EVERYTHING covered, no pre-existing conditions bullshit, little or no co-pays, very few questions, etc., etc. The kind of plan that most of us can only envy. PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS who often do NOT have that same luxury, are uninsured, or are facing financial ruin due to a serious illness. Now tell me, Mr. Idiot Fearmonger Do-nothing Congressman, tell me why THAT isn't "socialism." Please explain that to me, I'd love to hear it.
