Anger after Afghan family killed in US raid
Source: AP

ALI DAYA, Afghanistan (AFP) – An Afghan army colonel whose wife and children died in a US-led raid demanded action against the troops responsible Friday as President Hamid Karzai condemned the killings.

The operation in the eastern province of Khost around midnight Wednesday killed the wife of Afghan National Army artillery commander Awal Khan, two of his children and a brother.

The troops, who had been hunting a militant linked to radical Islamist groups, also shot a pregnant woman and killed her unborn baby, which had almost come to term, Khan and a provincial health official said. The woman survived the shooting.

Khan lost his schoolteacher wife, a 17-year-old daughter named Nadia, a 15-year-old son, Aimal, and his brother, who worked for a government department. Another daughter was wounded.

After the shooting, the pregnant wife of Khan's cousin, who lived next door, went outside her home and was shot five times in the abdomen, the army officer said.

She was taken to Khost provincial hospital, where the nine-month-old foetus was removed, he said.

"She survived but her child died. The child was hit by bullets," said Khost province health director Abdul Majeed.

The US-led military initially said four people killed by troops were "armed militants."

3. We have to get the hell out of the countries we're occupying
all we're doing there is making things worse.

I read these stories everyday, and they still make me ill.

You and I, we paid for those bullets and rifles and vehicles that were used in this. If the military was the mafia (and it very well may be) we would be the Dons, sitting back in our mansions while the wise guys keep people "in line" e.g. kill them at will.

It disgusts me to now end that I take a role in this mess via my tax dollars. Anyone who isn't a psychotic killer should be offended by this, IMO.

This is liberation? Oh please.

20. you got to take it back further than Bush..
you have to take it way back....but I think Clinton almost had it there when we put the Taliban in power to stabilize the region enough that American business interests could get in there and lay the pipeline. But then they got the bad press, and the Taliban started playing games with Bridas, wasn't it? Hell, the Taliban were still negotiating with the Bush Administration in September of 2001.

7. more "change" we can't believe in, by neoPNAC. our taxpayer dollar$ at work.
I am ashamed of and embarrassed by my vote in November--tricked by a con artist posing as a "constitutional scholar" and "community organizer" who was really just another huck & jive warmonger. How's that "surge" workin out for ya? what happened to the "diplomacy" bullshit? I am ashamed of my country.

oh, and what was the point of shooting a largely pregnant woman five times in the abdomen? Was "Osama bin Ladin" supposedly hiding in there, along with unicorns, elves, and the Loch Ness monster? assholes.

Multiply that by how many? How many times has this happened?

Golly, makes me feel just wonderful to wake up on Sunday morning and see tha we're carrying on in the fine tradition of the bush** administration.

Now we have the war president.

Glad things have changed.

10. The raid was conducted by U.S. Special forces
way to go guys, I see all the special training really paid off. I sleep better at night knowing this family of evil doers is gone. A radio report about this said the surviving family would be compensated per standard operating procedure. Yea, that will make it all better, "heres a sack a cash, some lolly pops and a Teddy bear, no hard feelings right"

12. Yes, we train them to kill but not to preserve a nation of people. This
is the best evidence that this is not a military operation. This OBL thing should have been a police action from the beginning. Police at least have the duty to protect and serve even when some do not. If a country had attacked us on 9/11 then it was a military action but when it was an individual or group outside of government then it is a criminal investigation.

19. Spec Ops guys generally
are older more mature and seasoned guys. Not fresh out of boot, toss a grenade in the room, kids.

As information comes out it will be interesting to see where the truth lies.

All the fine rhetoric in the world can't hide the fact that Obama is just another bloody Imperial warmonger. He, and all his farcial rationalizations for this horseshit can go to hell.

We, our military and leaders, are terrorists. Other peoples live in terror of our bullets and bombs. They will become what we fear the most....desperate and angry people.

18. We need to get our asses out of there NOW!!
This is utter lunacy. Do we think we are going to win the hearts and minds of the civilian population by mutilating them and their families??? Please, we all know what happened in Vietnam, and we are all seeing what has happened in Iraq. Get the f*ck out of there NOW!! Work with the Taliban to turn over the reins of power to their people, and get OUT!!

We didn't get Osama Bin Laden, and that was our mission. We failed. Now, get out and regroup.

25. Please keep posting these
I will keep sending to my Rep. Keith Ellison who needs support on why we must bring the troops home.

The fact that RAWA calls for the troops to leave is enough for me to know they must leave.

The longer we are there, the more power the Taliban reclaims it's power.
