Obama Twice Approved Plan to Rescue U.S. Sea Captain
Source: Fox News

A senior administration official told FOX News that Obama granted the authority on Friday and Saturday to use appropriate force to rescue Capt. Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast.

A senior administration official said the president's order authorized force for a group of military assets that arrived at the scene late last week. When more resources arrived, Obama added them to a roster of military personnel allowed to engage militarily with the Somali pirates.

Obama was told Sunday of the rescue while he was in the White House residence, administration officials said. He phoned Phillips and Phillips' family, an official told FOX News.

"I am very pleased that Capt. Phillips has been rescued and is safely on board the USS Boxer," the president said in a statement. "His safety has been our principal concern, and I know this is a welcome relief to his family and his crew."

1. DIdn't the Fauxers WANT Obama to do "something"
or are they secretly pissed that the operation was successful? I swear the fact that Obama exists on the planet is enough to rile them. It will not matter what the man does or doesn't do for the next four years...well, you get the point.

3. Oh you can bet they're pissed. Their heads are exploding. A tough-warrior Dem is
their worst nightmare. They want it and love it, but can't admit (Even to themselves) that it's the thing they've always wanted.

8. Apparently, that's the way it is from now on.
Bush received the same sort of treatment on this site, as Clinton did from conservatives before Bush. Neither side seems capable of giving any credit to the other. Personally, I think President Obama did the right thing by staying pretty much out of this incident. Standard rules of engagement did not require presidential permission for the SEALs to act, but the president would certainly have been blamed if they did not, or if it all went FUBAR.
Fortunately, it all turned out well. I would only have been disappointed if President Obama had actively prevented action when the opportunity arose. He left it to the SEAL professionals, who are the best in the world for such a situation. This doesn't make him a hero. It's his job, and so far, so good.

10. All Obama did was say, "Ok, do it if you need to."

The Captain of the Bainbridge is the one who in all likelyhood made the call. From what I gather, and from what I've read, they saw something they didn't like, got the SEALS in position, and took their chance. That would be the CO's call. I'm glad it worked out for Capt. Phillips either way.

13. Gotta love a pres who's in charge without telling everyone who's in charge.
And I especially love the fact that the thugs hadn't a clue what he was gonna do and that he did it without the phony cowboy swagger.
