Kinky Friedman may run for governor as democrat

AUSTIN -- Humorist and author Kinky Friedman is forming a political committee to begin raising money for a possible second run for Texas governor.

Friedman said Tuesday he will travel the state for several months talking to Texans about whether to enter the Democratic primary in 2010. He ran unsuccessfully as an independent in 2006, when Texas Gov. Rick Perry was re-elected a second time....

2. 11 reasons why Texas Democrats didn't support Kinky the last time
1. Kinky's own website quotes Kinky telling the New York Times, "I'm not pro-choice."

2. At a recent death penalty trial, Kinky testified under oath that although "he used to support the death penalty, Friedman told jurors he's now against it." Yet Kinky's website also says "Kinky is not anti-death-penalty."

3. Kinky gave an interview to Susannah McNeely of Ruminator magazine where Kinky said "I voted for Gore" in 2000. According to Kerr County voting records, however, Friedman voted in the 2004 Presidential general election but not in any other contest since 1994.

4. Kinky wants to take money generated from sales tax and other state revenue sources and give that money away only to Texas property owning corporations and people with those owning the most valuable property getting the biggest windfall. Live in a modest house or an apartment? You’re out of luck...

5. On a November 8, 2005, Kinky appeared on a nationally televised CNBC news program, where he was asked about his views on criminal punishment. Kinky replied, "Throw 'em in prison and throw away the key, and make 'em listen to a Negro talking to himself."

6. Kinky would address Texas' public education funding crisis by letting "the corporate sector bid on funding athletics." (What exactly does Kinky think Halliburton, KBR, Sodexho, etc. will be getting from our children in exchange for their high bids?)

7. Kinky proposed to deal with immigration issues by building a wall along the Texas-Mexico border and by outsourcing our border security to five Mexican generals who would let armed thugs patrol our border.

8. Kinky supported organized, state-sponsored school prayer and posting the Ten Commandments in classrooms.

9. Kinky made plans to offer top political appointments to his biggest campaign contributors.

10. Kinky's 2006 campaign was bankrolled by wealthy Republicans who supported Rick Perry.

11. We already threw our support behind Chris Bell, dammit!

10. We need this like we need Bush to return as HHS secretary
So he has enough money to get himself in the headlines. Let him run naked through
Highland Park waving his cigar or something, but please, not for governor again.

we still have Gov. Goodhair. We need a real grass roots DEM and not some joke the Texas Dem selects.

Mayor White is thinking about it. He has run Houston very well and because of term limits-he can't run again. I think he would be a great govenor but he is more of a management type not a beer and bbq buddy. I don't know if the rest of Texas is ready to leap into the 21st century.

My other choice...Rick Noriega, he can kick butt in his combat boots.

6. Not feeling this at all! We (Texans) need a FORMIDABLE...
candidate to run against either Perry or Hutchison. Are there ANY strong Dems in Texas running for the seat??? I haven't heard a thing about any other Democratic candidates running. What in the h*ll is wrong with Texas??? We have got to get out the vote in 2010, no more voter apathy. These neo-con/right-wing nuts are ruining this state.
