Protesters throw apparent tea bags at White House (prompting SS to lockdown the compound)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Secret Service says a suspicious package thrown over the fence and onto the White House's North Lawn was not dangerous.

Tax protesters threw what appeared to be a box of tea bags toward the White House on Wednesday, prompting officials to lockdown the compound. The Secret Service also used a robot to inspect the package thrown in an apparent act of defiance meant to echo the rebellion of the Boston Tea Party.

2. "...an apparent act of defiance meant to echo the rebellion of the Boston Tea Party"
We have way undervalued the study of History in this nation, and it is to our peril.

"Boston Tea Party;"...somewhere a Founding Father is weeping in his grave... :(

5. Nothing...

18. Thank you. About time someone pointed that out. D.C. is the only place able to claim taxation
without representation. Everyone else in this country is represented in Congress.

7. The Boston Tea party was a reaction against huge corporate tax CUTS.
That action by Britain put American businesses out of business.

This insane 'teabagging' protest is nothing but a bunch of old white, usually male whiners. Where the hell were they when Bush and Cheney were spending us into oblivion?

15. They also don't seem to understand

....that real conservatives might be offended at the implications of the word "tea bagging".

Once again, are these people really Republicans? Or do they just hate living in America?

13. Yep, it had nothing to do with high taxes...

It was about such things as government officials not answering to the people, business monopoly, and defending constitutional rights (albeit the British constitution). And they were driven to it by (among other things) a rather dim-witted, wealthy, ultra-conservative governor who had elevated his good-for-nothing offspring into positions that put them into the cross-hairs (yes, they had Shrubs in those days too). Bottom line: it was a group of very smart liberals defending liberal ideals vs. a conservative government, a conservative governor, and the governor's feckless offspring.

So it was almost hilarious to watch these ignorant rubes protesting today. In 1773 they would not have touched the Boston Tea Party with a 10 foot pole because the men who pulled off the Tea Party were a bunch of liberals.

Completely f*cking clueless.

19. They were way beyond liberal. They were radical revolutionaries. The conservatives went to Canada.

14. These people are hypocrites

The tax type of political isn't really political about anything but taxes and the federal government.

I mean, come ON - we know these people, they are in every middle-class suburban community.

They contribute nothing except when they want to complain about government and taxes.

21. This is not even about taxes. If it were, where were they last year and
the years before, when their taxes were higher than they are this year?

This is strictly Republicans, trying to make Obama look bad by pretending the TARP and the rest of this mess is his fault.

They let a little rain shut down a protest? What a bunch of wusses!

It may rain during the revolution.

for "enemies of the state." So let's send them over.

20. If the protestors had been Democrats, with a Pub in the Oval Office, the demonstrators would have
been arrested. Is there any doubt of that whatever?
