US soldier guilty of Iraq murders

A US Army master sergeant has been found guilty
of the murder of four Iraqi detainees in 2007.

A jury of eight officers and NCOs reached the
verdict against Master Sgt John Hatley at a
court martial at a US base in southern Germany.

He will be sentenced on Thursday. He faces
the possibility of life in jail.

Master Sgt Hatley is the most senior of seven
soldiers allegedly involved. Two have been
convicted of murder and two pleaded guilty to
lesser charges.

1. More about the killings
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25328908-5012749,00.html

The murders were allegedly committed in March or April 2007 in or near southwest Baghdad. An exact date and location have not been determined and the bodies, which witnesses said were dumped into a canal, have never been found.

Two other soldiers - Sergeant Michael Leahy, a medic, and Sergeant First Class Joseph P. Mayo - have been convicted and sentenced to life and 35 years in prison, respectively, with the possibility of parole.

2. At least the Army is serious about justice
Unlike the Marines who put on show trials for the benefit of those paying attention, but in the end acquit the suspect. At least that's the way it's been so far!
