Afghan law does not allow rape, cleric backer says (but allows starvation)
Source: Reuters

KABUL (Reuters) - A new Afghan law that has drawn Western condemnation for restricting women's rights does not allow marital rape as its critics claim, but lets men refuse to feed wives who deny them sex, the cleric behind it says.

Ayatollah Mohammed Asef Mohseni's Shi'ite personal status law sparked controversy abroad because of a provision that "a wife is obliged to fulfill the sexual desires of her husband."

This was read by some as an open door to marital rape, and together with clauses restricting women's freedom of movement denounced as reminiscent of harsh Taliban-era rules.

The law has been criticized by Western leaders with troops fighting in Afghanistan, including U.S. President Barack Obama, who called it "abhorrent."

1. If you have to put sexual duty into law
these Afghan men must have small dicks that last about 20 seconds. Bastards, religious men cover up their sexual insecurities with dogma and laws against women. That's what it boils down to, the more religious they are the more insecure in their manhood. These turds also marry 7 and 8 year old girls, who will be forced to provide for their husband's sexual needs by law. Good God, what if she physically can't without hideous damage? Do these religious men care? To them I am sure the ultimate pleasure is watching women suffer and die, which seems to be the real objective of extremist religions, watching women die for the pleasure of insecure, impotent, soul-less males. I bet they all have to jack off after every stoning or flogging of a woman. I am sure every cleric's fantasy is splitting apart some seven year old "wife" he just bought from her father for a hand full of poppy seed.

The world needs to come together against these monsters now. I wish the women of this world didn't have to put up with the words "Cleric" or "Priest"; those are designations that have throughout history only brought torment for women and children across all cultures.

3. I have yet to see an actual translation of this law

That makes me suspicious. I don't trust clerics like this man, who can put all sorts of spin on these matters (though "only" withholding food is horrific in itself).

Any way you look at it western troops (including the female Canadian soldier killed a couple of days ago) shouldn't be putting their lives on the line to support a government that upholds these values.

8. Wife Beating in Islam - The Rules
excerpt from the video link;

The Koran (Quran) allows men to beat their wifes, and here are the rules. After watching this, you will no longer be able to claim ignorance of Islam.
QURAN 4:34 - "Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme."

Of course, as it makes them feel comfortable,
some will attack the "source"video translating it into English.

Here is a woman making a counterpoint in English;
Woman says it is common for muslim men to beat their wives

9. Here's one from "our Bible"
Bible Quote for November 20
Beat Servants, Lock up Wives

But of these things be not ashamed, lest you sin through human respect;…Of constant training of children, or of beating the sides of a disloyal servant; or of a seal to keep an erring wife at home. (Sirach 42:1,5-6 NAB)

12. Ah, I guess that explains it. Raised Presbyterian here.
Had to memorize the books of the Bible at the age of 8 and that wasn't one of them!

Most of the OT is terribly misogynist, though. (And a few passages of the NT, for that matter).

:puke:

Glad we have a secular government, and not one based on any religion.

My deepest sympathies and solidarity go to the women trapped in the Dark Ages.

13. Agreed
The treatment of women in many countries is deplorable, and it is usually justified by religion. It is best to keep the state and religions in separate domains.

6. "Doesn't allow rape" Hmmm Methinks that they really
mean that under the law, there will be no such thing as rape.

Achmed Assholeola added, "Bros before Hos - those adulterous bitches that we used to call rape victims, they will be stoned in obedience to Allah!" :sarcasm:
