NEW YORK - The last time Yankee Stadium opened, Babe Ruth starred and the ballpark quickly became the house he built. Eighty-six years later, a new Yankee Stadium was ready to make its debut.

“They’ll find a way to get those ghosts over there,” former manager Joe Torre said Wednesday on the eve of the first regular-season game at the grandiose $1.5 billion ballpark.

Appropriately, the first official pitch at America’s most expensive stadium will be thrown by the pitcher with the richest contract, CC Sabathia.

I wonder if that kind of money spent on a building to be used 90 to a 100 times a year is worth it?

I am sure that I would lose in any argument against spending it, so let us enjoy..

So let me be the first to say that this is terrific. I will miss the old building, but the new one looks fantastic.

To the haters: Your team sucks!

5. Tell me is Sabathia really worth 161 million??? as this quote says?
"Sabathia, 1-1 after signing a $161 million, seven-year contract, gets the honor of the first start and left 25 tickets for family and friends. He’ll face his original big league team and be opposed by Cliff Lee."

8. Looks like a nice field - a tribute to corporate subsidies.
I wonder why they cut off the foul territory near the foul poles?

11. ...
To all those who say who cares...I like it

Do you live in or anywhere in New York? Are you footing the bill for the exorbitant price tag for this falsely overvalued monument to corporate greed and Steibrenner dementia? (Although plenty of it has come from federal tax money, and which by the way a one Congressman Kucinich was supposed to be investigating) Did any of your kids use to frequent the 100yr old Macombs Dam Park for their only source of fresh air and athletics before it was paved over? Are any of you going to fork over a week's worth of wages just to sit in the nosebleeds and watch millionaires watch millionaires chase a baseball around?
In truth, this, along with Shiti Field, is just one of an endless list of eminent domain, land grabbing, tax hiking, gentrifying abuses committed against the people of the city of New York.

There was a time when it was just a game. There was a time when a working class mom or dad could just take their kids to watch the great American pastime. In NY, that time is gone...long gone. But for all you rich yuppified hipsters who want to enjoy lobster rolls and sushi while sitting in your plush lounger seats behind home plate...this game's for you
