Democrats: Texas gov should disavow secession talk
Source: Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas – A group of Texas Democrats says Republican Gov. Rick Perry was reckless when he suggested at an anti-tax rally that fed-up Americans may one day want to secede from the United States. They said Thursday that he should disavow such talk. Democratic state Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco says talk of secession is anti-American and that some people associate it with racial division and the Civil War.

Perry's office did not immediately respond Thursday.

Answering a question from The Associated Press at an anti-tax rally Wednesday, Perry said he doesn't think Texas should secede. But he said the federal government was thumbing its nose at the American people and added, "who knows what might come out of that."

1. The Fed may be thumbing its nose at the American people...
But for eight years of Bush rule, the Fed carved open the American people and took a dump in their viscera.

Any asshole who wants to secede now should simply renounce his citizenship and be done with it. But if he doesn't have the courage of his convictions, then he should shut the fuck up.

10. Because of dire economic conditions...
... why don't we sell Texas instead? We could use the cash!

Of course, that means there has to be a willing buyer. One of the Saudi princes, maybe? That would bring on the theocracy so cherished down there plus all sorts of capital punishment fun and games that would entertain the cowboys for days.

It'll mean giving up pork barbecue and beer, though. So it might not be as much of a slam-dunk as I think.

;-)

Does TX fit on e-bay? :-)

I think Governor Perry would love the New Rules from China.

21. Texas and Saudi are eerily similar
Lots of oil. Lots of sand. Lots of executions. Lots of backward thinking religious zealots. A few big, glittering cities with no hint of public transport. A large labor force of immigrants who do all the work but are looked down upon. Moronic, uneducated leaders.

I think there's a perfect union here!

6. We need to excise Texas from the high-speed rail plans
if they're going to talk like that:

http://www.fra.dot.gov/Downloads/RRdev/hsrmap.pdf

These wingnuts are all too happy to throw our money into the Iraqi sinkhole to satisfy their bloodlust urges, but do anything for the common good, and it's "oh no, can't have that. It might help someone out who doesn't have a job."

11. Secession has the connotation in the minds of many of a move by the South
to protect their policies with regards to slavery. That's the racial tone there that they are talking about.

38. Hardly.

Here are some traitors, it seems:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2620265

Who knew you considered babylonsister a traitor--perhaps you're for hanging her?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1043601#1043673

It was discussed more than a few times--either the "we're so much superior and understanding, let's leave the knuckledraggers behind" way of doing it, or the "we're so much superior and understanding, let's chuck the knuckledraggers out" alternative. We do it, it's great--after all, we're so much superior, how could it not be great.

They do it, it's crap. After all, they're so much inferior, how could it not be crap. The only thing consistent is the self-conceit. (Then again, that's something that, were we honest, we'd form a very solid bipartisan consensus on.)

37. But, But, isn't it ALL 'Merican to say, as Palin & Perry have, that
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 01:18 PM by panzerfaust
"their" states should succeed from America?

I mean, how is that NOT being a Real 'Merican??

In fact, what could me MORE 'Merican???

Hell, next you'll be whining that "I hope Obama fails" is unpatriotic, and even un-Merican as well!

Interestingly, I doubt that their statements are even treason, as under our Constitution (Article III, Section 3):
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court."

(OK, so there is no record of Palin saying precisely that, but she is on-record as supporting the goals of the AIP - the main one of which is that Alaska should be it's own (700K) nation (as one can tell from the name "Alaskan Independence Party").

19. The pick em up trucks that used to fly the American flag,
before they changed over to the support our troops ribbons are now calling for secession. I hate to admit it but Texans seem to be the most weak backed people around. They don't just bend to the wind, they fall over and grovel to Perry and his handlers at the TAB, farting at both ends. Anybody else remember Al Capp's shmoos? For those who don't, there is a good section on Wikipedia.

36. Meh, any that has a clue about Texas Government know fully well
that the governor, especially the current moron, is nothing more than the ranting crazy uncle at the table.

LT Gov and the congress have the power.

They let moron perry rant he wants because anyone that has a clue here in Texas knows fully well that perry is on political life support. Come the primary, he will effectively get his moronic ass handed to him.

the only constituents moron perry has left are the ultra fringe.
