Thousands attend opening for Holocaust museum

April 19, 2009 (SKOKIE, Ill.) (WLS) -- Despite a driving rain and mud-soaked walk thousands of people turned out this morning in Skokie to watch former President Bill Clinton unveil the largest Holocaust Museum and Education Center in the Midwest.

Grammy Award winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari played a song intertwined with themes and images from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'S "I Have A Dream" speech.

Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel told those gathered that amidst the horrors of the Holocaust, people of different faiths showed compassion.

"Never can you know the impact or consequences of words, images, actions even a smile," Wiesel said.

1. My mom was at the event. She is going to be a volunteer at the museum.
She has gone through lots of training and learned a lot of history.

My grandfather was a Holocaust survivor - survived Auschwitz!

IF you watch this, you will feel the Holocaust. It may be the most powerful and horrific movie ever made.

and still, today, we inflict horror on our fellow humans.
