Kucinich: Victory Against Privatization
Source: Kucinich press release

Following a relentless effort by Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to challenge the Bush administration’s efforts to privatize Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) jobs since 2001, DFAS today announced that that it will cancel agreements with Lockheed Martin and employ government workers to perform all areas of retroactive pay and benefits for veterans.

“This is a great day for veterans and a victory for government oversight. This decision will finally end the six-year nightmare of privatization of retired and annuitant pay services that resulted in the degradation of services to veterans and an increased cost to taxpayers. I thank Director McKay and Comptroller Robert Hale for their choice to serve veterans first, rather than perpetuate a lucrative contract with the nation’s largest military contractor,” stated Kucinich

1. Thanks again Dennis!
I can't think of even ONE example where privatization proved beneficial to anyone other than the profiteers.

This is the perfect response to the people that try to suggest that Dennis is flakey or lacking substance. I am happy that I supported him both times he ran for president and I will support him again should he run again.

63. Yeah.
I am not a big fan of a write-in. If I want my party to know they picked a REALLY bad candidate I am more than willing to vote third party.

That said, Dennis has my support.

2. Yes!
Great news.

I'm hoping that Obama's call to his cabinet heads to cut $100,000,000.00 in their budgets will mean that more of the Bush errors will be defunded, like the sleepers that were given gubment jobs.

Best way to get rid of the dead weight is to have mandatory budget cuts and include them in the cuts.

5. Yet another piece of the "Bush legacy" is undone and we are better for it.
Bill Clinton has to be out of his fucking mind to share a stage with this moron.
A "conversation" with George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

Give me a fucking break...

I'd like to have a conversation with George W. Bush.
It would go like this...

Me: Hey Monkey!
W: Whut?
Me: Your under arrest for crimes against humanity. Hands behind your back motherfucker.

Short conversation but a fulfilling one.

in the primaries. It's a real shame that so many bought the media (and other candidates) spin about him and judged him for his looks. His warnings, ideas and opinions were ignored or laughed at. The man keeps on trying and I am glad that he succeeded with this.

As for Obama, I am not surprised at some of what is happening. I voted for him with eyes wide open and did not expect any miracles. I thought that he would be able to do some good given the horrendous mess that we are in, and he has in the last few months. That is not to say that I am happy with what has been going on lately, quite the opposite in some cases, but they did not come as a shock or surprise to me since compromises have to be made in Washington in order to get anything done. I don't agree with it and it's a sad and sorry situation, but what we have to deal with for now.

We just have to keep letting our reps know what we think is right and keep hounding them to do their jobs, as Dennis does.

66. Same here. In reality though, those of us who supported DK here on DU
back in the primaries were in the minority. I can't count how many times I read on DU how Kucinich was *too Liberal*, or *he sees UFO's*, or *Department of Peace...HaHa*. For me, that's just what I was looking for...effectively a complete 180 degree turn from Bush and the GOP, but apparently for many others such a prospect was simply too much to wrap their mind around, and found it best to simply ridicule the man whose way of thinking they couldn't quite understand. I truly believe that one day we will progress greatly as a nation when we reach the point where politicians the likes of DK become the norm, and the ideas and policies espoused by the Fanatical Right and our so called "Centrists" go the way of the Dodo.

71. I was in the same position.
To use a torture metaphor: choosing between Clinton and Obama felt like the choice between someone telling me they were going to punch me in the face three times, someone telling me they were not going to punch me even though I knew I they probably were going to punch me as hard or harder, and someone telling me they were going to beat me to death (McCain.)

Ah the sweet taste of freedom. Kinda tastes a little like blood in the mouth.

77. K&R . . . and have to say again LOVE KUCINICH ...and this is important . . .
Americans have to really take a look at privatization and its disruptiong of government/

military for the benefit of those private individuals making fortunes --

45,000 private contractors in Iraq!!!!

And, be wary of any privatization of "accounting" -- !!!

If we haven't already learned our lessons there!!!

Thank you for the post!!!
