Michigan issues first medical marijuana cards
150 IDs in the mail, while state processes 700 other requests
Oralandar Brand-Williams / The Detroit News

Lansing -- The state has issued its first batch of medical marijuana patient ID cards and will mail them out today.

The Michigan Department of Community Health will send the cards to 150 people who applied to be on the state's registry. About 700 others are awaiting approval, said James McCurtis, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Community Health.

To qualify for a card that makes it legal to use marijuana to alleviate debilitating medical conditions, applicants must have a signed doctor's note and pay $100. Low-income residents can get the card for $25.

Last November, voters approved a ballot measure making it legal to smoke or possess marijuana for medical use, making Michigan the 13th state in the nation to do so.

12. Oregon is $150.
Low income is $20.

The program has run a surplus and put cash into the General Fund since it started.

6. They probably have an expiration date too
It's another way of getting money for nothing. And that doesn't include the doctors visit which is also about $150.00. It's a scam as long as they can get away with it.

Seriously -- they're mailing them out -- and announcing that they're mailing them out? Not smart!

11. The first glimmer of light toward decriminalizing marijuana. Pardon every person serving time for
criminal marijuana use and apply the money to critical social programs.

15. A bright spot
in an otherwise very troubled state.

I hope those suffering from various ailments find relief from marijuana and I hope the Feds stay away.
