US court rejects Obama position in 'rendition' case
Source: AFP

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – A federal court said on Tuesday "rendition" victims could sue a company involved in their detainment, rejecting government pleas that the case should be halted on national security grounds.

The 3-0 ruling by a panel of the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reinstates a suit brought by five men who say they were kidnapped and sent to secret overseas sites for interrogation and torture.

A federal judge originally threw out the suit, based on arguments by the administration of former president George W. Bush.

<...>

Unless the Obama administration succeeds in getting Tuesday's ruling overturned, a lawsuit could proceed against California-based Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen Dataplan who are accused of knowingly providing services that enabled rendition flights for the Central Intelligence Agency.

7. problem is...
the payers won't be those who committed the crimes if the payers end up being the workers there, and/or the taxpayers at the end of the rope

the executives will still get their contracted bonusses

that's what communism for the richest classes only is for

5. Very nice...
it's got to start sometime, it might as well be with this case. I'm sure there will be a shit-storm of lawsuits, as well there should be. I hope Cheney, Bush, and everyone else are sued for all they're worth.

8. hmm
Other problem is .... doesnt really matter.

No court can order the release of classified (esp TSI) info covered under the NS act.

Only agency heads and the administration can put info through that process and even then

It still might not be released.

There were a lot of ACLU lawsuits against the AF that went nowhere because a judge cant order or

gain access to classified material.
