Democratic Party
Obama, Specter, Biden Plan an Early Get-Together
By Michael D. Shear
President Obama will join the newest member of the Democratic Party -- Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania -- for some brief comments tomorrow morning.

The White House announced the pair, joined by Vice President Biden, will meet at the Diplomatic Room of the White House at 8 a.m. and address the media before Obama leaves for a town hall meeting in St. Louis.

Specter announced today that he is switching to the Democratic Party, giving the president the possibility of a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority.

Biden, a close friend of Specter's, spent weeks trying to convince the Pennsylvania senator to make the switch, especially after Specter broke from Republican ranks to support Obama's stimulus package earlier this year.

They must have met--probably more than once--before Specter announced his decision to the public. This go round is mostly for public consumption (Indeed, the three of them are on TV as I type).

Oh, to listen in on some of these conversations, though!

Today is the 100th day, too.

Congratulations, Mr. President. Make us proud!
