California Woman: My Father Was the Zodiac Killer
Source: Fox News

A California woman has come forward to claim that her late father was the elusive Zodiac Killer and that she accompanied him on many of his shooting sprees in the late 1960s when she was only 7-years-old, KTVU.com reported.

Kevin Mclean, a California-based attorney, has led a 2-year long investigation into claims made by Deborah Perez that her father, Guy Ward Hendrickson, was the Zodiac Killer and urged her to come forward when he heard that another investigator was planning on presenting another theory to police.

“He was a Jekyll and Hyde,” McLean said of Hendrickson. “He was nuts. He set out to kill people. Some of these killings were not random.”

Perez has also claimed that she helped to write, address and stamp many of the cryptic letters sent to the San Francisco Chronicle following the murder of Paul Stine in 1969 and to have embroidered the mask worn by the killer during many of the murders, KTVU.com reported.

“There were strange events with my father,” she said. “I would hear shots and my father would say it was firecrackers. I would see a woman running and then hear shots and he would tell me someone threw firecrackers at her.”

Hendrickson lived in Orange County, California until 1993 when he died of cancer.

According to his step-son, Dennis Kaufman. And for only $9.99, you can purchase his production "ZODIAC THE UNTOLD STORY". :eyes:

17. That story has more credibility.
It still doesn't match all of the available data, but that guy was the right age, looked right, drove the right cars, lived in the right area at the right time, and matches up on a lot of the smaller details. This article covers that possibility pretty well. http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/content?oid=283929

16. Her family lived in LA?

She claims she and her Dad left their house in LA, to go to her aunt's house, also in LA, and on the way they stopped in Vallejo and he killed two people.

Geography Fail.

Just based on the locations, the killer was probably based out of Vallejo or someplace around there. Definitely somewhere in NorCal, probably on the 80 corridor somewhere in the East Bay.

4. I wonder if she knows the meaning if any of the last 18 letters?
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 07:18 PM by JonLP24
I doubt it but there isn't alot of information in the article. Though my gut doesn't believe her but she could be telling the truth.

I didn't mean letters as in written mail, I meant letters as in a,b,c.

edited to hopefully prevent confusion of what I meant.

6. Ya, that's a good point. I don't know a whole lot but I know I Wiki'd the...
...matter around the time that Zodiac movie came out. It was interesting but repulsive whenever the reality of the situation intruded into the curiosity-fueled gawking.

7. Ya, I was kinda thinking that too. But you never know. I'm sure the police...
...will want to talk with her and they can probably get to (something like) the bottom of the matter after a few interviews.

8. More information, shame on Fox News for limited reporting
According to today's press conference, the Zodiac Killer was some guy named Guy Ward Hendrickson. Whatever. But here's where it gets good: Hendrickson allegedly took his daughter, Deborah Perez, along with him for the murders.

Perez spoke at today's press conference. Here are just a few of her wild claims.

* During the shooting deaths, he told her the gun shots were firecrackers.
*

She stamped the envelopes containing the cryptic letters sent out to local media.
*

She embroidered the mask he wore while committing his notorious acts.
*

During a routine police stop, he stuck his gun in the back of her pants. This happened just after the 4th of July killings.
*

She also said he killed between 30 and 40 people.
*

He lived in Orange County. Of course.
*

He apologized on his deathbed.
*

The murders seemed to be a "special activity" between her and her dad.

Allegedly.

But here's the rub, Perez says she wrote some of the letters herself and that she saw a composite on America's Most Wanted in 2007 of her father as the Zodiac Killer, and began to remember it all. So, you know, she may be delusional in addition to being sanity-estranged. (However, according to attorney Kevin McLean, the man who lead this most recent investigation, "Everyone is going to say she is crazy, but we had psychologists examine Ms. Perez." Word is, though, that McLean isn't a beacon of mental clarity himself.)

9. Last article (The one above seemed to tip on the bias side)
San Francisco police say they will look into a woman's claim that her late father was the infamous Zodiac killer.

Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said Wednesday that homicide investigators will check into information from a woman who said she was a little girl when her father killed at least two of the known victims nearly 40 years ago.

Deborah Perez of Corona, Calif., said Wednesday she was seven and was with her father, Guy W. Hendrickson, when he killed Darlene Ferrin at a park in Vallejo and Paul Stine in San Francisco in 1969.

Perez said she has given police what she believes are the eyeglasses Stine wore and letters she wrote on her father's behalf about the crimes.

12. I know a guy so into the JFK assassination he believes he was there
He's 44 years old, so you can do the math.

The point is, in cases like this, especially famous ones, people often convince themselves of things like this. And don't even get me started on all the horrors -- the ruined lives, destroyed families -- that "recovered memories" have caused.

19. Well, I hope she is right
That way I don't have to deal with being regularly accused of being the killer because of my internet handle. I wasn't even born when the murders took place.

This is the "Zodiak Ironfist" my nick handle comes from.

Just sayin'
