Fox not granted a question at Obama’s press conference.
Source: Think Progress

Fox not granted a question at Obama’s press conference.

In tonight's press conference, Obama spent nearly a full hour answering questions from reporters, who represented media organizations such as the Detroit News, the Associated Press, BET, and all three cable networks -- ABC, NBC, and CBS. One outlet that didn't get a question? Fox News, whose affiliate was the only network station that decided not to air the prime-time news conference. Obama called on Fox News White House Correspondent Major Garrett in his previous two press conferences.

39. Fox News Channel (FNC) did air the press conference ...
FNC is considered a Cable Channel.
FOX affiliates are over the air FREE channels
While ABC, NBC & CBS all broke away from their regularly
scheduled programming, FOX decided not to show the press
conference over the FREE Fox affiliates, and continued to
broadcast their regularly scheduled programming.

They're scum bags, and not calling they rep. is little payback.
Some of the FOX affiliates should have their FCC license revoked
for knowingly lying over OUR airwaves.

63. my understanding is that it was a financial decision
not political (not that anyone at DU will believe me).

Fox's "Lie to Me" is fairly successful compared to whatever junk was on ABC, NBC or CBS for that time period. So Fox had more to lose by ditching the show and broadcasting the press conference. It's also Obama's 3rd in 100 days.

Fox also showed it on Fox News Cable, so if it was a political move why did they air it at all?

20. If "Fox" were "News" they would be acknowledged as such; but, "Fox" is NOT NEWS.
Hell, even THEY admit they are "views" rather than news,...in a coy sorta' way.

They should be beaming from pride at being so focused at a "view" they are not acknowledged as "news".

What's their problem?

Oh! The recession is hitting them, too,...huh.

24. Almost like "not negotiating with terrorists"
you give validity to their argument.

When you like guys like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'rielly represent your pool of thought; what do you expect?

Say what you want about the liberal media; at least liberal pundits don't make prediction after prediction after prediction. They may have been overtly critical but at least it's been on issues and events that have already happened; have already become reality.

Conservative pundits have nothing to stand on, which is why they will use a talking point to project fear and imaginative future scenarios that will rile their base ie. Fema Concentration Camps, Banning Guns, Government turning into fascist/communist/socialist regime.

In all fairness, Liberals (like myself) equated the Bush administration with fascism but we are doing so in it's, at the time, present-state. We never trumped a nightmare scenario but merely pointed out what it had already become.

ARLEN SPECTER SWITCHES PARTIES
Posted on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009
By Samuel T. Westbrook

WASHINGTON, DC - The Hill was shocked as Pennsylvania’s senior Senator, Republican Arlen Specter, announced he was switching parties - because of the babes!

With rumors mounting for weeks about a likely showdown in the Republican Primary, Specter has in recent weeks made moves to seemingly reestablish his place as a traditional Republican politician. His rejection of the Employee Free Choice Act is the most recent example.

Specter, along with the other moderate Republican Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, have found themselves very popular thus far in the Obama Presidency, as their votes are frequently courted to break fillibuster threats over populist and progressive legislation such as the 2009 Bail Out.

However, Specter’s recent and frequent siding with the Democratic majority was surprisingly not his primary reason for abandoning the party he has been a part of for nearly three decades.

“I love the Republican Party and what it stands for,” Specter told reporters during a news conference Wednesday. “However, the Republican Party we see today is not the same Party I joined when I first ran for Congress in 1980. The face has changed and so have the ideals.”

“I mean, c’mon, seriously, where are the babes? What kind of Party have we become when Bachmann is considered our top tier?”

Specter was referring to Minnesota Representative and supposed “hottie to the max” Michelle Bachmann, who gained notoriety just before the 2008 Election for inflammatory rhetoric on the campaign trail.

“You can’t tell me that’s the best we can do. She looks like the Nanny. Worse, she sounds like her,” Specter continued. “I’ll take a cool, laid back babe like Sebelius over a dolled-up trollop like Palin any day.”

Specter’s about-face and critique of the Party did not go over well with many of his former colleagues. Republican demagogue and talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, was quick to criticize the move.

“Who does this guy think he is?” Limbaugh bellowed on his daily radio show program shortly after the announcement. “Who is he to say that the Republican Party doesn’t know how to attract babes? Have you seen Cindy McCain? Have you seen Sarah Palin? These broads are stone cold foxes.”

“What does the Democratic Party have? Hillary Clinton? Ruth Bader Ginsberg? Just the thought of those women makes me think I’ll never pitch a tent again, if you know what I mean.”

“You know what?! I say good riddance! Take Meghan McCain with you. She’d fit right in and we don’t want her!”

But not all of Specter’s former Republican Colleagues were so immediate in their dismissal. Maine Senator Olympia Snowe showed her usual middle of the road Independence and restraint. “When I heard the news, it was not easy to prevent myself from jumping to conclusions,” Snowe responded.

“How could I not take this decision personally? Arlen and I have been friends and colleagues for over twenty years. I know we’re not as young as we used to be, but I certainly think I’m still pretty good looking.”

When reached for comment, Senator Specter said, “Oh I never meant for Olympia to take this decision personally. I certainly was not including her in my early comments or during my personal deliberations. Olympia is a babe, for sure. She is the definition of Cougar.”

“I know that many high ranking Democrats have reached out to her hoping she would consider switching Parties. Let me say clearly and on the record: Olympia, babe, you would fit right in!”

After all if we're going to point fingers at Iran and accuse them of nuclear tyranny before they even get the bomb then it's fair to ask questions of the Israelis who have been run by a not so mentally stable right wing cabal for quite some time and have been attempting to provoke war at any chance they can get.

61. As crikkett suggests - she broached the Israel/Nukes debate
.
.
.

Dodging the question doesn't look good, it lends credence to some claims that Israel has a choke-hold on the WhiteHouse.

This has been a contentious debate for decades,

and NO administration has answered World concerns over Israels' actions for decades.

Sooner or later, ONE administration will have to satisfy the World's concerns.

Hopefully, this will happen before Israel includes it's nuclear weapons in it's aggression on its neighbors.

I think Israel is more danger to the stability of the Middle East than Iran.

Of course, do NOT negate the instability that the USA has created there.

Even Israel would be hard pressed to "catch up" with the USA's "accomplishments" of invasion, occupation, death, destruction and genocide in the Middle East . .

(sigh)

48. Too bad this wasn't the time The Daily Show's John Oliver was there
About a month ago Oliver (I think) did a send up on the White House Press Corps, which included being present at one of the daily press briefings. It would have been great this time to have him there, be called on, ask a pertinent question is a humorous way (Obama has a good sense of humor), and be given a sensible answer. Of course, Obama would be given a head's up about Oliver's presence and who he represented.

Meanwhile, Faux News is ignored.

They were the media sponsors of the Tea Parties. They have been openly rooting for the failure of America, and they decided to show their regularly scheduled programming instead of the news conference. Besides, a group of Faux's finest writers probably spent all night creating the most negative leading question they possibly could. They deserved to lose the opportunity to ask a question.
