Edited on Tue May-05-09 10:10 AM by AndyA
I loved him in The Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day. He played a secret agent.

His son was one of the students in 3rd Rock from the Sun and has done a few other things as well. He looks a bit like his father, too.

RIP, Dom. And thanks for the laughs you left behind for us.

(Edit: spelling.)

17. *cries* R.I.P. Dom :(
I have always loved his work.
As he got older he did a lot of stuff that kids can watch.
he's always come off as gentle, and great to be around.

His son peter was a major char. on 21 Jump Street (remember that?:) )
and went on to be a great director, doing a lot of Stargate SG1, and I think SG Atlantis, as well as other shows.

Dom leave behind a great legacy, in himself and his kids.

I'm greatly saddened by this news, but glad that he was.
he brought so many people laughs, he will be missed.

Another one of the great comedic generation lost =[

http://health.howstuffworks.com/obesity-paradox.htm Interesting research--a little meat on the bones doesn't hurt when you go under the knife.

I know people fatter than him who are older than him. Hale and hearty, too.

Luciano Pavorotti was a year older than he was when he died--and if he hadn't gotten pancreatic cancer he probably would still be alive.

43. Fantastic film -- true masterpiece that went right to cult
One problem it had is that it is chock full of very subtle humor and lots of subtle sight gags -- consequently it went over the heads of a majority of Americans.

58. Better story link that was not available when I started this thread --------->
Dom DeLuise, actor, comedian and chef, dies

snip...

The actor also appeared frequently in films opposite his friend Burt Reynolds. Among them, "The End," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," 'Smokey and the Bandit II," "The Cannonball Run" and "Cannonball Run II."

Reynolds fondly recalled DeLuise in a statement issued by his publicist. "I was thinking about this the other day," Reynolds said. "As you get older and start to lose people you love, you think about it more and I was dreading this moment. Dom always made you feel better when he was around and there will never be another like him. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much."

Another actor-friend, Dean Martin, admired his comic abilities so much that he cast DeLuise as a regular on his 1960s comedy-variety show. In 1973, he starred in a situation comedy, "Lotsa Luck," but it proved to be short-lived.

Other TV credits included appearances on such shows as "The Munsters," "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.," "Burke's Law," "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Diagnosis Murder." On Broadway, DeLuise appeared in Neil Simon's "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" and other plays.

72. Two of my all-time favorite lines were from Dom DeLuise
Edited on Tue May-05-09 02:11 PM by MurrayDelph
in the movie "The End," where Burt Reynolds tries to commit suicide to avoid a slow, painful, fatal disease, and ends up in a mental institution where he meets Marlon Barunki (DeLuise), a fellow patient, who decides to make it his life's work to help Sonny (Reynolds) commit suicide.

As one of his attempts, he suggests Sonny jump out the window, and the fall will kill him. Sonny refuses, claiming it's not high-enough, and would only result in more pain, and his whole reason for wanting suicide is to avoid the pain. Marlon argues that it IS high enough and that Sonny is just being a coward. Marlon decides that Sonny needs a push, so he gets a running start. Sonny, not paying attention, moves out of the way just as Marlon gets to the window. Marlon flops out the window. Next scene: Marlon in on his back in a Dom-DeLuise shaped depression in the grass below, and just before he passes out, he manages to groan, "You're right, Sonny. It's not high-enough!"

(This is the story I relate anytime someone mentions Bungee jumping).

The other quote, from soon afterward in the movie, is when Reynolds escapes, and DeLuise reacts to the phrase he (DeLuise) has just uttered:

"That man's nuts: grab 'im!"
