Poll Shows Ahmadinejad Leading in Iran's Presidential Election
Source: Voice of America

A new public opinion survey of Iranians shows that incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the leading candidate in the country's presidential elections scheduled for Friday.

The telephone survey of about 1,000 Iranians, commissioned last month by two Washington-based public policy institutes - Terror Free Tomorrow and the New America Foundation - found that 34 percent of those surveyed plan to vote for President Ahmadinejad.

His main rival, reformist former Prime Minister Mir Hossein Mousavi, was favored by 14 percent of the respondents. Twenty-seven percent of those surveyed said they are undecided.

The survey found that the two other candidates in the race are trailing far behind - Mehdi Karroubi attracted two percent of likely voters and Mohsen Rezaei was favored by one percent.

2. I don't buy it.
Did I not just read a story that said that Ahmadinejad was down like 59% to 34% or something like that?
That there were clashes in the street between sides, and that Ahmadinejad dissed his opponents wife and that was hurting him big time?

I don't know.
I kinda smell bullshit.
The Right Wing NEEDS desperately for Ahmadinejad to win.
If he falls that's one less bogeyman to scare the hell out of the sheeple.

And if it's one thing they need right now, it's a bogeyman to scare the hell out of the sheeple.
Because, Barack Obama as the bogeyman ain't working out for them.

5. You have to get 51% to avoid a runoff

There will be a second runoff election. in 2005 Ahmadinejad got 19% in the first run and 61% in the second.

The fact that he can only get 34% now is a good sign. That is very low for an incumbant.

6. Obama & Netanyahoo have been campaigning virtually around the clock for him
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 07:23 PM by Alamuti Lotus
unfortunate that Dr. Ali Larijani was advised not to run.

as an aside -- "Terror Free Tomorrow" and "New America Foundation"?! Really? Yes, it's certainly that pack of Unthinktanks that I would trust to tell me what "Iranians really think".

8. for some reason
i don't trust their polls. Besides if the ruling Ayatollah want's the incumbent back then that's what's going to happen.

12. The mullahs will set up a run off election like they did last time.
the also ran qualified as a third place finish only to be granted presidency after the runoff.
Iranian democracy is decided with theocracy veto power.

There looks to be another runoff and it would be nice if the mullahs decided nutjob wasn't worthy. The middle class wants him squeezed out before they become extinct by his 'scientific' means of managing the economy and country as election less then a week away.

13. Was this poll taken before or after Hillary started up the "obliteration" bullshit again?
I'm only asking because I could have sworn I saw a poll just the other day that had Mousavi with a decent lead. And upon hearing Hillary's comments, I couldn't help think of how Chimpy's stupid shit is what pissed off Iranians into voting for Ahamadinawackjob in the first place. Between NuttyYahoo and Hillary, they might vote for him again just out of defiance.

And NuttyYahoo would love nothing better :nuke:
