Porn industry healthcare clinic not cooperating, public health officials say

(UPDATE: At least 16 previously unpublicized HIV cases in porn film performers, public health officials say)

Public health officials said today they have had no cooperation from the adult entertainment industry health clinic that recently confirmed a porn actress had tested positive for HIV, hampering their efforts to investigate how she contracted the virus.

The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, a San Fernando Valley-based clinic, confirmed the positive test result to The Times on Wednesday. Despite requests from the county and state, AIM officials have not released the actress' name or provided the name of the production company or companies where she had worked.

“I don’t think we have the degree of cooperation that we would like in cases like this,” said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Los Angeles County health officer. “We’d like a little more proactive cooperation.”

Fielding said it is routine for the county to conduct an investigation in cases of disease transmission at the workplace.

Though testing is a little less expensive if your "talent" (meaning you're in the adult industry) vs. a "civilian" (someone who comes in un-related to the porn industry").....

13. I've known a lot of people who contracted HIV over the past 28 years...

but can't recall one instance where the gubmint declared open season on their medical records. From what I remember, IV drug use with shared needles and screwing are the two most common methods of contracting HIV and, given that she's a sex-worker.... I dunno, with all the kinky porn out there, maybe they're looking to identify new, unusual or downright bizarre methods of contracting the disease.

Seems to me whatever public health agency is pushing this is looking for a poster child for a media campaign. Then again, they could be Puritans looking to further demonize sex and teh evils of porn (which has probably saved hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens from exposure to HIV).

I don't know why is prostitution illegal if porn includes acts of prostitution. A prostitute can claim that he or she is an actor or actress to gain some respect and be in the legal side.
