TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Members of Iran's national soccer team wore green arm and wrist bands Wednesday during their World Cup qualifying match against South Korea.

The team does not normally wear green bands.

Many Iranians are viewing the team's bands as a sign of support for Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Moussavi, although that has not been confirmed.

2. Only 5 of the team dared wear them apparently...then
must have had a stern "talking to" at half-time as they apepard without them in the second half.

5. Actually it was 7
5 of the starters wore them and 2 substitutes

They removed them at half -- apparently under the orders from their federation

3. Iran had a revolution stolen
The revolution against the US-backed Shah came to be known as the Islamic Revolution, whereas during the 27 years (since 1953) of growing resentment, the opposition had a decidely leftist, not Islamic, flavor to it. So the whole revolution was stolen, and now 30 year on, people have really had enough.

Iranian footballers punished for supporting Mousavi

Their silent but very public protest was seen a show of support for rival candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, whose campaign colour was green. The players were told to remove the wristbands for the second half of the game.

According to reports from Balatarin the footballers in the protest have now had their passports confiscated and have been banned from giving media interviews. A number of state newspapers in Iran are also believed to be waging a public campaign pressuring the football authorities to force the players into early retirement.

I guess removing the strands of colored tape at halftime wasn't a sufficient enough act of 'submission'
