Spitzer Comes Out In Favor of Gay Marriage
ALBANY - State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer declared yesterday that same-sex couples should be allowed to wed - openly defying Gov. Pataki's stance on the controversial issue.

"I have no problem with gay marriage," Spitzer told the Daily News. "I think the law has moved to a point where people are comfortable that can be extended to people of the same sex," he said.

The comments from Spitzer, a Democrat, make him the highest-ranking public official in New York to back gay marriage.

1. I like Spitzer
and it shouldn't be this way, but he just talked himself off the ticket.

6. And more than Edwards (who got my vote this morning), and more
than all the original Democratic contenders but two. You rock, Elliot.

18. Me, too, slink. The last hurrah, maybe, but I did it.
Had to wait to get into one of the Dem booths - they were both occupied when I arrived. Voting's been brisk all day in our neighborhood. I live right across the street from the local precinct.

9. But the good news for Eliot Sptizer is...
That:

1) He just talked his way further INTO the governorship of New York State in 2006, and...

2) Holding that office, for a guy like Spitzer, may well give him a chance to talk himself into the White House some time in the future! :D

I, for one, sure hope so! :kick:

B-)

11. Perhaps in the short term
But he is taking a strong leadership role here; one that will be recognized in the long run. There are a number of voices popping up all over in support of gay marriage rights.
Just last night, Schwarzenegger said on Leno's show that if the courts hold that the CA constitution allows for gay marriages, he is fine with it and won't fight it. Further he announced that he does not support *'s FMA.
Things are rapidly changing.

14. Roy Moore even opposes teh FMA
I read on politics1.com that he told the Forward that he opposes FMA. Whenever you have 3 people like Spitzer, Schwarzenegger, and Moore all opposing something you know it doesn't have much of a chance at passage.

12. I love Eliot Spitzer!!!
What a guy, fighting corporate corruption and hate amendments and promoting love. He's my kind of Democrat. He will make a hell of a Governor in NY. I'd even support him as Attorney General for the US when we get our regime change in Nov.

16. Good for him!
The neocons and the right wing fundy fringe have destroyed so much in this country already. This latest, trying to remove people's rights via a Constitutional amendment, was just the latest straw.

Time to reframe the debate OUR way.
