Al-Qaida May Be Planning More Hijackings, say US Officials

U.S. officials say they have learned that terrorists may be planning new suicide hijackings of commercial airliners in the next months, similar to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Department of Homeland Security says there is no specific information on dates or potential targets, only that the attacks could take place in the United States or abroad.

The Department said the vague information was gathered during recent interviews with at least one al-Qaida prisoner. It was then corroborated by other means, including intercepted communications.

Officials continue to investigate the information but precautionary measures have been taken, including notifying law enforcement and security officials, as well as commercial airlines.

5. How would they get away with it?

Airport security is tight now. I don't see anybody, especially a person who looks Muslim, carrying anything that appears dangerous on board a plane. And I think that if it were tried without at least a knife, the would-be hijackers would get the beating of their life. I mean, even Liberals are willing to hammer a terrorist. At least this Liberal is.
