US taking Musharraf's revelations seriously: State Dept
Source: indian express

US has said it is taking "very seriously allegations" by former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf that aid provided by it for the 'war against terror' was diverted during his tenure to strengthen defences against India, but refused to say whether any probe has been ordered.

A State Department official said the "allegations were not specific" and as of now the US was not aware of any such violations.

"This is former President who has made these allegations. We take seriously any allegations like this. But simply we don't have the details to be able to respond to the allegations," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters when asked about the latest revelations by Musharraf.

In an interview to a Pakistani news channel, Musharraf admitted that he had violated the rules governing the use of the military aid, but justified his action, saying he had "acted in the best interest of Pakistan".

1. Bush, Sr. started the ball rolling by supporting the Pakistani nuclear program.

As CIA Director under Ford, G.H.W. had a little deal with the Saudis codenamed "The Safari Club." Letting AQ Khan run around the world buying and selling nuclear weapons technology was just part of that. Look it up. Wink, wink, nod, nod. :nuke:

2. Nobody could have predicted... oh, hell with it.
Let's see, Dick Cheney secretly visits Pakistan, tells them something that pisses them off, then only hours later secretly flies to a secret location in Afghanistan, and has a al Qaeda suicide truck bomber waiting to crash the gates. But Pakistan can't be a state supporter of terrorism (besides funding the 9/11 hijackers, which we can't talk about without throwing this subject into the dungeon) because we gave them the bomb and they scare the Iranians.

So yeah, it makes perfect sense that the Pakistanis would divert as much funding as possible to facing their historical enemy rather than the terrorist organization which they fund, conceal, protect, and direct.

4. Wait, back up - the Pakistanis scare the Iranians? Why would that be?
I imagine we in the US (well, at least the scary GOPtards, of them we should ALL be scared) and Israelis scare the Iranians more than the Pakistanis, with whom Iran shares some common history - far more than they share with either us or Israelis.

6. Because we can use Pakistan as a platform for invasion.

One wing goes down the Iranian coast from Iraq, the other goes up from Pakistan, and as soon as Iran is isolated from the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, they will have lost 90% of what we really want (their oil and gas). They can't counterattack into Pakistan for fear of Pakistan's nuclear reprisals.

Edit: I should add that the threat alone, whether or not it is actually employed, would serve to divert Iranian troops, for they must protect against such a move whether we do it or not.

7. Pakistan would never ever ever allow that.
This might be one of those military type plans such as plans for invading Canada and such, i.e., merely exercises in preparedness, but not a chance in hell that it'll actually happen, or that they'll approve the use of their soil for such operations. So, I really doubt the Iranians fear this kind of sequence of events. I could obviously always be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not in this case.

8. They would have.
Musharraf is the Republican Party's bitch and he does whatever the meanest, dirtiest Republican tells him to do, which is why Dick Cheney bothered to visit there occasionally. What Dick was telling Musharraf to do in 2005 was to get ready for an invasion of Iran. No, I don't know that for sure, yet. But I know Dick Cheney, and that's sure as hell what he wanted.

Musharraf exists at the pleasure of the United States. We provide most of his security and all of the reliable parts of it. There is no doubt in my mind that that relationship was exploited by the Bush Administration for everything it was worth.
