Poll: Support for Afghanistan war at new low
By Eric Zimmermann - 09/15/09 10:54 AM ET

Public support for the war in Afghanistan has reached a new low, according to a CNN poll released today.

Just 39% of Americans favor the war effort, compared to 58% who oppose it.

Those numbers represent a steady decline since April, when 53% of respondents supported the war effort.

The drop in public support comes as the administration is considering sending more troops to the country. Congressional Democrats have indicated opposition to any troop buildup.

2. The fraud in the latest election sure was deflating.
I would hate to think we are spending all this money to build a Government that is illegitimate. What a waste.

5. I've been against the Afghanistan occupation since day one.
Sure, it was fine by me if we nabbed Osama Bin Laden in Tora Bora during 2002, but to OCCUPY that Narco-Tribal State is INSANITY.

Time to declare "victory" against Al Quaeda in Afghanistan and get the flock out of Afghanistan ... out to the periphery.

Obama says Afghanistan is no Vietnam

(AFP) – 3 hours ago

WASHINGTON — US President Barack Obama rejected comparisons between the deepening US involvement in Afghanistan and the Vietnam war in an interview with the New York Times published Tuesday.

Some commentators have suggested that Obama could suffer the same fate as 1960s Democratic president Lyndon Johnson who saw his reformist administration eventually consumed by an entanglement in a war half a world away.

But Obama, who is aiming to enact a hugely ambitious domestic agenda while dealing with multiple crises abroad, rejected the comparison.

"You have to learn lessons from history. On the other hand, each historical moment is different," Obama said in a joint interview with the New York Times and CNBC.

"You never step into the same river twice. And so Afghanistan is not Vietnam."

Obama is currently considering a strategic review of US operations in Afghanistan and is widely expected to receive a request from the military for more US troops in the coming weeks. ... http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jl42jBAN1VbkljFKESn_S80anSOg
