Rockefeller & Co CEO dies from single gunshot

BOSTON (Reuters) - James McDonald, a prominent adviser to wealthy families as chief executive of investment management group Rockefeller & Co, died of a single gunshot wound on Sunday, local authorities said on Tuesday.

McDonald, 56, was found dead in his car near a strip mall in Dartmouth, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon. Police are still investigating.

"The preliminary investigation concludes that this was an apparent suicide," Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter said.

McDonald won praise for growing Rockefeller & Co, the New York-based family office established by oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller in 1882 to manage the dynasty's assets, into a broader investment management company with roughly $28 billion in assets.

11. I agree - also remember not too far back Kerry's SFRC investigator was kicked out of Switzerland
while he was trying to track some unfinished business from BCCI.

I think there's a huge underlying story going on. That Senate investigator was a former investigative reporter who happened to write two books Kerry would have some interest in - one on BCCI and another on AQ Khan.

19. Here's the guy Kerry hired....
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 05:29 PM by blm
This is from 2008 when he was still an investigative journalist:

http://www.worldradio.ch/wrs/news/switzerland/a-swiss-familys-involvement-in-nuclear-smuggling.shtml?10883

And this is from a few months ago after Kerry hired him as chief investigator for the SFRC committee:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=273x157739

I always knew Kerry would do whatever he could to bring BCCI matters forward. It's why he NEEDED to be President. He's still the only one I trust to be completely for truly OPEN government.

I was left speechless as to what to say to this big financial world news! That company runs over 25 billion in investments. It seems the focus on money as a profession leads to an awful lot of premature deaths...

9. Uh-oh...bad news coming...
Suicides like this are desperation moves. There's some very bad news about to break for investors who trusted their money to this firm.

Watch the news...

Sometimes people like him set impossibly high standards, and then can't accept failure when they can't achieve them.

24. "McDonald, 56, was found dead in his car near a strip mall in Dartmouth, Massachusetts"
Why does a guy who's gonna kill himself do it at a strip mall, in his car? EVERY report I've read states this was "an apparent suicide".

I'm not buying it.
