Its heartbreaking. MSNBC had a reporter in the area on last hour.
He said that they hadn't even gotten started in trying to rescue people from yesterday when this struck.

2. How scary! Just when they're probably starting to breathe normally, along comes
another.

Just reported a 5.1 in Sequoia Nat'l Park in CA -- no damage or injuries.

I'm in Seattle, wonder if it'll work its way up the coast...

15. After a large quake you don't breathe easier
for months. Aftershocks last for a long time.

16. I've been in a few big ones (biggest was 6.8), and about 10 total. In Seattle,
we never seem to have gotten the aftershocks that so many others do -- don't know why that is.

My brother was living in Whittier when they got pummeled and he expressed the same thing you did.

You'd better move up here! :hi:

4. I don't want to be an alarmist, but I read this this morning
San Andreas Affected By 2004 Sumatran Quake; Largest Quakes Can Weaken Fault Zones Worldwide

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/09/090930132700.htm

I see it as a related story.

7. I also read this article via the BBC
And coincidentally, California just experienced a 5.1 earthquake along the Cal-Nevada border.

8. Any geologists want to weigh in on this?
Is it all just coincidence or is there some kind of relation between all this plate shifting?

10. For what it's worth,
the plates are more or less in constant motion, and there are earthquakes every single day around the world. Not very many are strong enough or located in an area to cause damage, so we pay a lot attention of when one does. Or when there's a series as in these ones.

following the recent sunspot activity. Which continues, it appears, following an unusually quiet period.

9. A Peru quake, too
if I'm remembering right.

Does look like the "ring of fire" is in an active stage. Scary!

possibility of this for decades.........are they finally waking up?
