Fidel Castro lauds Nobel prize for Obama
Source: Reuters

HAVANA (Reuters) - Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro lauded the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to U.S. President Barack Obama, saying on Saturday it was "a positive measure" that was more a criticism of past U.S. policies than a recognition of Obama's accomplishments.

Castro said the prize made up for the blow Obama suffered last week when the International Olympic Committee awarded the 2016 Summer Games to Rio de Janeiro after Obama had flown to Copenhagen to pitch for Chicago, his adoptive hometown.

The Nobel Committee announced on Friday that Obama had won the peace price for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

The decision prompted surprise in many quarters and anger from Obama's conservative foes in the United States.

6. Cuba's Fidel Castro hails Barack Obama's Nobel peace prize
Source: Daily Telegraph

Cuba's Fidel Castro is the latest world leader to opine on the controversial award of the Nobel peace prize to President Barack Obama.

The former dictator, who handed power to his brother Raul last year after falling seriously ill, made clear that he believed the award was primarily a repudiation of Mr Obama's predecessors.

"Many believe that he still has not earned the right to receive such a distinction," he wrote in a column published in state media. "But we would like to see, more than a prize for the US president, a criticism of the genocidal policies that have been followed by more than a few presidents of that country."

10. Right on Fidel. Bravo. I certainly renounce Americn genocide too, and hope Obama will
It is long past due that the US recognizes its genocidal history and does something about the Natives still in the concentration camps of the 1800s!

Fidel, you speak the truth to these asshat Americans:

Michael Steele, openly mocked him. "The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?'" he said. "One thing is certain - President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action."

Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-show host, was as outspoken as ever. "Can you imagine, folks, how big Obama's head is today?" he asked listeners. "I think it's getting so big that his ears actually fit."

simply continuing failed neoliberal policies.

Lovin' the schadenfreude.

14. It's the Louis Farrakhan Corollary.
You can't choose who speaks up for you, no matter how much you dislike them. Remember the primaries? The Farrakhan incident? "Reject AND denounce"?
