Political pundit Ed Rollins pummeled by debt
Edited on Mon Nov-02-09 12:38 PM by Newsjock
Source: Detroit News

The architect of President Reagan's landslide 1984 re-election campaign, heavyweight CNN political consultant Ed Rollins, owes more than $1.33 million in state and federal taxes, records show.

Rollins, 66, who has served in the administrations of four presidents, is a senior political contributor for CNN and senior fellow at Hofstra University's Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency.

He also served as national campaign chairman for Mike Huckabee's presidential run last year.

40. tax debt
How in the name of Heaven can any one allow a debt to grow so enormously? How any one in the public eye be so careless...or just a rebel...???

Another tax-cheatin' bastid! He deserves all that is coming his way, although these shitweasels always manage to land back on their feet somehow. I do not wish him well, and I'll take the karmic hit for my lack of sympathy.

19. .
ED ROLLINS: Obviously, a guy who basically has been in the treasury department, a guy who's going to go back in the treasury and be the chief law enforcement officer in the treasury, should be paying his taxes.

DOBBS: Well, he --

ZIMMERMAN: Well, let me --

ROLLINS: -- to pay his taxes?

23. YAWNNNN....more of the same typical conservative hypocrisy
Let's see, a preacher who denounced homosexuality from his pulpit gets caught pimping with other men.

The author of the "Book of Virtues" had a gambling problem.

Several Republicans who profess "family values" and opposition to same-sex marriage get involved in extramarital affairs.

Now a former advisor to the greatest president of all time* dislikes our current president's failed cabinet nominees for tax issues and the current administration for wasting money but has no problem borrowing nonstop money on his own (and neither with the previous president's administration spending, spending, spending on an unnecessary war in Iraq)

*:sarcasm:

...he once worked for Robert Kennedy and the Bushes hate him.

He has an interesting and very full biography. Sure, he's a flawed man, but he's smart and knows where ALL the bodies are.

34. Well, lots of smart people around whom we NEVER see on TV . . .
and I think Rollins knows where the bodies are buried because he helped bury them.

Isn't this the guy who was paying "black" Preachers $500-600 NOT to tell their AA

members to go out to vote?

Do I perhaps have him confused with someone else?

35. you are right on both counts
But if you only want American airwaves to allow political operatives who are squeaky clean, well I think that's stifling free speech and infantilizing the audience members who, after all, are perfectly capable of finding the history of any pundit and judging what he/she says accordingly.

I always support MORE information and MORE dialogue and MORE input from participants in history, not less.

8. does no good
Rollins, McCain;s adviser, Paul's former employee - so now they know/knew, but it does the goal of healthcare no good as long as the fatcats in Congress have their health insurance plan and are raking in enough money so they could even afford to go without insurance.

Still, I'd like to see them stripped of their insurance, some would see the light.

Perhaps reading this while peeling onions might keep me from crying - it would have that much of an impact on my tear ducts.

12. Before anybody starts crying for him
Rollins worked as the campaign manager for Christine Todd Whitman in her 1993 New Jersey gubernatorial race. After organizing a campaign that led to Whitman's come-from-behind victory, Rollins claimed to TIME magazine that he secretly paid black ministers and Democratic campaign workers in order to suppress voter turnout.

"We went into black churches and we basically said to ministers who had endorsed Florio, 'Do you have a special project?' And they said, 'We've already endorsed Florio.' We said, 'That's fine, don't get up on the Sunday pulpit and preach. We know you've endorsed him, but don't get up there and say it's your moral obligation that you go on Tuesday to vote for Jim Florio.'" After public outcry and calls for an investigation, Rollins partially retracted some of these claims telling People magazine that his comments were "an exaggeration that turned out to be inaccurate

31. The ministers weren't endorsing anyone
from the pulpit, but they would always encourage their congregation to vote on election day, and they voted predominantly Democratic. Rollins bought their silence. Rumor has it Leonard Coleman, who was later named the President of baseball's National League and Lana Hooks later named Whitman's Secretary of State were the ones who delivered the money to the black ministers.

liquid pity down upon thee...
for thou art surely one of

Stupid George Nethercutt who defeated, in 1984, Speaker of the House Tom Foley in WA's 5th. Now we have the 'dump as a bag of rocks' Cathy McMorris Rodgers to put up with.
I'm so glad Ed Rollins is such deep debt. I hope he stays in it.

I still remember what he did during to get Christie Todd Whitman elected - he was just as disgusting as those preachers who accepted his money (Rollins went to predominantly African-American churches and paid for the preachers to NOT tell their congregations to go out and vote)

needed health care bills that Rollins, Reagan and every republican has attacked constantly since Medicares was first proposed and since it's inception.

Just as the republicans are now attacking health care and the public option for all that is long over due...These same greedy republican pigs care nothing about the American people's well being....the republicans care ONLY for corporate profits....government for corporations over workers that's republican ideology.
