Senators want decertification of touch-screen voting systems
Citing problems in last week's primary election, two leading senators Thursday asked the secretary of state to decertify the use of touch-screen voting systems for the upcoming November election.

"California has a lemon law which protects consumers if they buy an automobile that doesn't work. So far, electronic voting in California is a lemon. It needs to be fixed," said Sen. Ross Johnson, R-Irvine.

Electronic voting machines have been controversial almost since their invention. Some computer scientists say the systems leave elections vulnerable to hackers, while other critics say that because most electronic voting terminals do not produce paper records, there's no way to ensure accurate recounts.

5. There was good news in Georgia today too
A Georgia activist posted this on another board:

A bill requiring voter verified paper ballots in Georgia has been approved today by the state Senate committee and is now moving onto the full Senate for a vote.

6. Oh really?
Good to know...it's a step in the right direction, although I'd like to see more safeguards...

Any software that's owned and kept secret by a corporation...can't be allowed by the citizenry. The tally is supposed to be public, and we simply CAN NOT stop short of that...

But yes, this is progress...

9. Good News
I was horrified that we had brand new paperless voting machines when I voted in the primary.

14. the systems leave elections vulnerable to hackers
I'm thinking that this might not be such a bad thing. We all know that the Bushies are going to try to steal the election in any way possible. It might be good to have a hundred or so left-leaning hackers to restore things to a proper balance, to set things right after the bushies set them wrong. I know I would donate a few bucks for such a worthy cause.
