<snip>
WASHINGTON - President Bush marks the one-year anniversary of the Iraq invasion with a speech next week on the war there and in Afghanistan. But the White House is looking to spotlight progress in the broader war on terrorism, from breaking up an arms-dealing network based in Pakistan to persuading Libya to give up weapons of mass destruction.

Also blended into Bush's schedule are political events in key electoral states including Pennsylvania and Florida.

Every day next week, the White House has arranged events meant to highlight gains in the war on terrorism and the Iraq war, which began March 19, 2003.

Bush sets the stage this weekend by sending Secretary of State Colin Powell, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld onto the Sunday news shows. Their message: The Iraq campaign and the anti-terror war are getting results.

3. "breaking up an arms-dealing ring in Pakistan"?

Was that the nuke scientist who was helping Libya, Iran and North Korea develop nukular weapons?

Oh, no. My mistake. Our "ally", Dictator-for-Life Musharraf pardoned him and hailed him as a hero.

GREAT job, Chimpy!

4. This is really very sickening...
<The weeklong effort culminates Friday with a Bush speech in the East Room of the White House on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush is expected to highlight the gains those wars produced in the war on terrorism, the benefits for the people in those countries and advances toward Middle East democracy and freedom, a White House official said.>

5. How tasteless
Celebrating the death he has caused for the sake of his rich-reich buddies. He should hang his head in shame about the Iraqi Invasion. Although in order to feel shame, you would have to have a conscience, possibly a soul. I doubt he has one.

7. It's all he's got--a failed war--two , no three failed wars if y ou count
the war on terrorism.

It's all he's got--Rice and Powell are jokes in almost every household--why the hell do they stay on the payroll?
They lie and give Bush wrong information--to lie and to be black persons lying for George? Looks good for the black vote? i hope the Dems have something to counteract this farce of people pretending to be big shots over a slaughterhouse war, when the entire thing has been a failure.

it was an illegal invasion that resulted in Crimes Against Humanity. Chimpy should be celebrating in a cell in the Hague, IMO.

9. another BAD idea...

does he think that just *saying* Afghanistan was a success will fly? it's a total disaster. from the reinvigorated Taliban to the flourishing opium crops...

Iraq? go ahead insipid chimp... remind us of the needless deaths and maimings. other than removing SH, another total, ongoing failure.

war on terror? terrorism is on the rise since that "war" began.

go ahead. make your speech. bring it on!

11. But the solution is simple.........
Since the complete itinerary is known, the opportunity is ripe for a pre-emptive information campaign to point out that everything he will highlight as successful prosecution of these events is no more than smoke and mirrors to hide the failures of the administration.

Dems must learn to be ahead of the situations at some point, rather than just weakly responding.

In other words make these people wary of lying before before they spout the lies.

12. I wonder how much his "anniversary" will detract from the protests,...
,...scheduled for March 20th?

Will those protests get any coverage or will a steady flow of the usual propaganda be funneled to the American people?

Duh! Dumb question *LOL*.

Dover to D.C. Memorial Procession
A trail of mourning and truth to honor those killed and wounded in Iraq

March 14 and 15

The Bush Administration refuses to acknowledge the toll of this war – including those who are killed and wounded. We call on this administration to start telling the truth, and stop hiding the toll. We will begin this two-day event at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where the U.S. war dead arrive. This memorial procession will honor our fallen brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, wives, husbands, mothers, fathers and friends, along with Iraqis and the increasing number of people from other countries who have been killed and wounded, as we deliver our call to end the violence to the nation's capital

29. Do you think they will put up a statue of W in the same spot?
I won't be surprised. Hell Halliburton can overcharge us for it too which makes it a win-win. :eyes:

I mentioned in GD last week that we should be ready for this media crush and W will probably get a boost in the polls but if he doesn't he is in more trouble than they could have imagined. 9/11 and the war are the two huge spikes in his numbers that he has rode downward like a wave.

19. Sort of hard to believe he'd want any attention given to the war in
Iraq at this stage. There's just been too many questions dripping out in the press on it lately. I don't know if this is such a smart move on his part - reminding people of the illegal war and profiteering he started.

Then to point to Afghanistan besides - I can here the confused public already - Oh yeah, why'd we go there again? 9-11? So why'd we go to Iraq then? WMD? Oh yeah, did we find 'em yet?

First 9/11 and now the "war" and anti-terra campaign. You really have to question his sanity. He really doesn't get what a COMPLETE failure he is, does he?

25. New title: Bush Looks to Spotlight Anti-Terror Fight
and an edited story....

<snip>
WASHINGTON - The White House is hoping to spotlight progress in the broad war on terrorism next week as President Bush (news - web sites) marks the one-year anniversary of the Iraq (news - web sites) invasion.

The focus will be on such issues as the breakup of an arms-dealing network based in Pakistan and Libya's decision to give up weapons of mass destruction, even as Bush speaks on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (news - web sites).

.... call from rove perhaps?

27. He had no choice but to celebrate it
I'm sure they anticipated the immense media coverage of the "One Year Anniversary" of the war, given the media's propensity for anniversaries. They had no choice but to try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear to counter the coverage. Of course, the toll of the dead and wounded are bound to be broadcast. How can he justify the human sacrifice?

Also Tuesday, the Defense Department borrows a favorite White House tactic by hosting radio talk-show hosts at the Pentagon. Rice and Rumsfeld are among those who will speak to dozens of interviewers.

Please don't tell me they are actually going to have Rush and Hannity there.....oh brother I guess this is part of an effort to make them seem credible. Wow that is some machine they have.
